“I booked with Hannah Gilbert and am very happy with my haircut! I’m trying to embrace styling my natural 3b curls, so I did a lot of research on my hair type and came in with a pretty clear idea of what I wanted. Hannah added some much-needed layers, and the cut itself is great! I’d definitely book with her again.

I’m very much still in the learning process when it comes to figuring out how best to style and encourage my curls—what products to use, which methods work best, etc. My hair did go into “curl shock” after the cut (the new layers went extra curly while the bottom length temporarily lost some definition) as my curls adjusted to the redistribution of weight. This temporarily caused a bit of a “shelf” for a week or two. From what I’ve read, this is totally normal, and my curls have since balanced out—which is why I waited to write my review.

I have a lot of hair, but my individual strands are fine, so I need to use very lightweight products. I’m still on the hunt for the right lightweight curl gel, and the product we tried at the salon ended up being a little too heavy for my hair. However, once my curls got over the “shock” and I styled them with mousse, it was clear that Hannah did a great job with the layers and the cut!
