Incredible staff. Dr. Gonzales and the South 40 team are second to none. Their compassion, care and kindness for our fur baby, Bentley in his final hours after delivering the news our boy had cancer is something I’ll never forget. While this will always be one of the biggest heart breaks for our family, I could have never navigated this without Dr. Gonzales and the South 40 team’s help. Thank you from my heart. All of our pets care are being transferred to you.
Dr. Lee truly cares about his clients and it was very obvious he is not in it solely for money. I had an emergency needed, and he was quick to respond and give advice on what to do. I highly, highly, highly recommend South 40!
A couple of weeks ago, our puppy Meche did not want to eat and was throwing up (also not drinking water) so we took her to our local vet (we live in Cinco Ranch in Katy) and after doing a simple check up, sent us home and told us to keep an eye on her, the next day she was not doing well and was not eating or drinking water so we took her again to our local vet and after running a lab exam and taking X-rays told us the same thing, take her home and let’s keep an eye on her. At that point I told them….. “Hey, I know I am not a vet, but if she is not drinking water (or eating anything), don’t you think that she should get some fluids on her? Maybe put her on an IV? I am sure she is dehydrated.” There answer was “No, I think she will be ok….. what we can do is give her some diffraction pack/vitamins under her skin and if she is not ok by tomorrow, bring her back…..” And yes, the charges kept coming…. It was 10PM and Meche was looking worse and worse and was looking more lethargic so we decided to call our daughters vet in college station (the emergency line). The doctor picked up right way and after talking to us at length and asking a lot of questions, told us to bring Meche first thing in the morning. We were there right at 8am after a scary car drive (Meche stoped breathing 2 times and was not looking good at all and her pulse was low). As soon as we got there they put her on an IV, did a parvo test, pancreatitis test, x rays, ultra sound, and also took a look at the lab tests that our local vet did. The doctor veterinarian told us that despite that he cannot clearly see an intestinal obstruction, based on what he saw in the ultrasound and X-ray, his instincts were telling him that there is something stuck in the intestine (maybe cloth?) and that he thought that we needed to operate right way. So…… that is what we did. The surgery was supposed to be 45min and lasted a little over 3 hours and yes they found a huge obstruction of a toy made out of cloth mixed with some small pieces of wood. Doctor Lee at South 40 Veterinarian in College Station let us stay and watch the surgery through a glass. The good news after the surgery….they found the obstruction and it was cleared. Dr. McCann who performed the surgery told us the it was the biggest intestinal obstruction she had ever seen (in a dog). The bad news was that since the intestine was clogged for more than 3 days, the intestine was not responding and we just needed to wait and see if it regained it’s normal function (if not, we needed to make the hard decision to let Meche go). Since there was nothing else for us to do, we gave her a kiss, told her that we love her and went home knowing that she is in the best hands at South 40 Vet with Dr. Lee and Dr. McCann. Dr. Lee and Dr. McCann gave us a call 2 or 3x’s a day to give us updates on Meche, letting us know how she was doing and updating us on her progress, and always encouraging us to come and visit her (despite that she was in ICU) and we visited her every day. It was already day 3 in the morning and as usual we received Dr. Lee’s phone call with an update on Meche and told us…. “She looks good and we are taking care of her, I am super positive that today her intestine will react and start working again!” He is a super positive guy. I asked him.. “Dr. and what happens if her intestine doesn’t react….” And in a calm voice he said…..”Then, we did everything we could do….. but I am positive!”. So I said…. “Can I do anything? Maybe visit her, maybe walk her, maybe talk to her? Anything?” And his answer was…. “The doors of South 40 are always open for you guys, I always encourage people to come and visit their pets when they are here, it is good for them”. So I jumped in the car and drove that way….. I grew up Catholic but I don’t go to church, I am a very spiritual person that believes in God and have a close and personal relationship with him. I am a family guy (love my family), work hard, live a low key life and help out people as much as I can and I make sure I do not harm anyone. As I was driving, I was thinkin
