from the moment i walked in, i felt very welcomed and taken care of!! my stylist, courtney is so amazing, she does an incredible job, not only doing my hair but she is so happy and friendly!! i showed my previous stylist inspo photos that she never accomplished in YEARS! that courtney accomplished in ONE APPOINTMENT!!! she is amazing!!
I was first introduced to Helen at Slate Hair Salon by a (ex) boyfriend about 6-7 years ago. While that relationship ended ages ago, I am so glad that I got an excellent hairstylist from it. The salon itself is a little house tucked away off of 51st, so keep your eyes peeled for the signs to park in the back. I've lived in Austin for 13 years and used to drive back home to San Antonio to have my hair done periodically. Once Helen came into the picture, convenience and creative, perfectly executed styles were a part of my life. Not only is she a rad person, but hella talented. As someone who's got a diverse background, it's hard to find a stylist who can work with the texture and thickness of my hair. She's able to look at any photo I bring her and cut/style my hair just as I imagined or even better. Helen even got me to embrace my naturally curly hair! Not to mention, she manages to give me cuts that allow me to style it both ways depending on my mood. Recently, I've toyed around with moving away from Austin, but the thought of leaving the stylist who brings life to my wild hair ideas is scary. If you're in need of a new stylist, come to Slate Hair Salon. You may find your hair's soulmate.
This has been my go-to salon for over 10 years: Helen is a true artist with hair. She's super wonderful to talk to and has always executed perfectly whatever needs to be done, but I personally so appreciate her expertise: she hand-mixed hair dye for me during my "auburn era" that I got numerous compliments and "is that natural??"s on. When I told her I was hoping to try going a little blonder, she suggested balayage highlights, and as usual her vision for my hair turned out better than anything I could have even imagined. Helen is awesome, a super sweet person and a fantastic stylist!
