ShadeTec Films is a first responder-owned automotive film company in Amarillo, Texas, specializing in window tint, paint protection film, and vehicle protection services for drivers across Amarillo and the Texas Panhandle.

For Daniel Granados, the business is not simply about making vehicles look better. It is about how people are treated when they bring in something they have worked hard to own. A vehicle is often one of the largest purchases a person makes. Whether it is a 10-year-old car or a $100,000 truck, Granados believes the owner deserves the same level of respect, explanation, and care.

That belief is the foundation of what he calls The ShadeTec Standard.

From a Teenage Honda Civic to a Career in the Automotive Industry

Granados’ connection to vehicles started long before ShadeTec Films.

“I have been into vehicles ever since I was a teenager,” he says.

At 16, he bought his first car, a two-door Honda Civic. Like many young car enthusiasts, he spent the rest of high school working to afford modifications. What started with one car became a lifelong immersion in the automotive world.

“From there, it was just a constant passion for vehicles,” Granados says. “Modifying them, detailing them, painting, and everything in between.”

The ShadeTec Standard — honesty, integrity, transparency, and relationship-based service

He later attended trade school for auto body and continued building experience across different parts of the industry. Today, he brings more than 15 years of automotive experience to ShadeTec Films, including mechanical, auto body, and electrical knowledge.

That background shapes how he approaches tint and paint protection film. Modern vehicles are complex, and Granados says the work requires more than the ability to install film cleanly.

“I don’t just know how to tint,” he says. “I have vast mechanical, auto body, and electrical experience. This helps me connect with the customer and really dial in what works best for them and their situation.”

Why He Started ShadeTec Films

ShadeTec Films grew out of both passion and frustration.

Granados saw a service industry that, in his view, had become less personal over time. Customers were often treated as transactions, not relationships. He wanted to build something different in Amarillo.

“I started this business out of a desire to bring a more personal and trustworthy experience back to the service industry,” he says. “Over time, businesses have become increasingly less personable. I wanted to help fill that gap by creating a company that values real relationships, transparency, and quality service.”

The business also gives him a way to stay close to the work he has always loved.

“Vehicles have always been a part of my life, and getting to work on them and see customers’ reactions brings me joy.”

That combination matters. ShadeTec Films is not positioned as a high-volume shop built only around speed or price. Granados is building it around a more deliberate customer experience, one where people understand what they are buying and why it matters.

The ShadeTec Standard

For Granados, The ShadeTec Standard is not a slogan built around perfection. It is a standard of conduct.

“Honestly, I just believe that’s the standard all businesses should hold themselves to,” he says. “It doesn’t necessarily mean perfection as much as it means honesty and integrity.”

ShadeTec Films is also first responder-owned, and that part of Granados’ life has shaped how he thinks about service. When asked how it influences the way he runs the business, he answers with one word: respect.

“To sum it up in one word, respect,” he says.

That respect is not reserved for luxury vehicles or high-ticket projects. It applies to every customer who walks in.

“Whether it’s a 10-year-old car or a $100,000 truck, a vehicle is one of the biggest purchases a person makes, and I treat every customer and their vehicle the same.”

It is a simple idea, but in a category where many customers do not know how to compare films, installation quality, or long-term protection, it becomes a competitive advantage.

Relationships Over Transactions

One of ShadeTec Films’ guiding principles is grow relationships, not clients.

For Granados, that is not just a softer way to describe customer service. It is a business strategy.

“I strive to make my business as personable as possible,” he says. “I believe relationships build revenue, not volume.”

The idea is that the first interaction should not feel like a one-time sale. It should create enough confidence that customers remember ShadeTec Films the next time they want to protect, upgrade, or personalize a vehicle.

“I want to be at the top of their mind when it comes to upgrading their vehicles in the future because we built trust from the first interaction.”

That is a long-term view of local business growth. Instead of chasing volume at any cost, Granados is betting on reputation, repeat customers, and word of mouth.

No Overselling, No Ambiguity

Another core principle at ShadeTec Films is transparency over uncertainty.

In practice, that means Granados does not believe in pushing customers toward the most expensive option simply because it produces a higher sale. He prefers to explain the differences, understand the customer’s actual needs, and recommend the package that fits.

“A lot of businesses will just sell a customer on something without getting to know what their needs actually are in order to make more money,” he says. “I try to educate the customers, and if that means selling them a lower-priced package that fits all their needs, so be it.”

That approach may reduce the size of an individual sale, but it supports the larger business he is trying to build.

“No ambiguity, no overselling, just exactly what they need and what they will get,” Granados says. “I set customer expectations at my own detriment because I’d rather have one happy customer than five who think they didn’t get what they paid for.”

It is one of the clearest expressions of his business philosophy: the sale matters, but the relationship after the sale matters more.

Why Quality Tint and PPF Matter

Window tint and paint protection film are often treated as appearance upgrades. Granados wants customers to understand the practical value behind them.

Window tint can help reduce heat, but it also helps protect people and vehicle interiors from UV exposure.

“Window tint doesn’t just protect you from the heat,” he says. “It protects you and your vehicle from harmful UV rays that can cause cancer and degrade your interior.”

Paint protection film, or PPF, serves a different but equally practical purpose. It helps protect the vehicle’s finish from road debris, weather, and everyday wear, helping preserve the look and value of the vehicle over time.

“PPF isn’t just for appearance,” Granados says. “It’s to protect your investment from the elements so that you retain the most value by preserving its finish, all while making it easier to wash and maintain.”

He also encourages customers to look carefully at what they may be giving up when they choose the cheapest or fastest option.

“As most things go in life, cheaper usually doesn’t mean better,” he says. “You have to ask yourself, where am I compromising to get a lower price or faster installation? It’s either the quality of the film or the quality of the install.”

For ShadeTec Films, the value comes from combining quality materials, careful installation, and a customer experience that continues after the job is finished.

“When both of those elements are top tier, combined with great customer service, you’ll get what you pay for.”

Built for Amarillo and the Texas Panhandle

In Amarillo and across the Texas Panhandle, vehicle protection is not only about appearance. The local environment makes it practical.

The region can bring extreme heat, intense sun, and unpredictable weather. Summers can push cabin temperatures high, while strong windstorms can carry dust and debris that damage a vehicle’s paint.

“The weather here is very harsh and unpredictable,” Granados says. “From 100-degree summers that make cabin temperatures skyrocket to 70 mph windstorms that can sandblast your vehicle’s paint, window tint and PPF are essential for the protection and longevity of vehicles in this area.”

That local reality gives ShadeTec Films a clear purpose. The company is not simply selling automotive upgrades. It is helping drivers in Amarillo and the Texas Panhandle protect their vehicles against the conditions they actually face.

The Small Things That Build a Reputation

For Granados, a business’s values are often revealed in small decisions.

He recently heard from a customer whose windshield tint had started peeling after a dashcam was installed. ShadeTec Films had not installed the tint, but Granados still took the time to explain the issue. The weight of the camera was causing the film to fail, and the tint needed to be cut around the camera mount.

Rather than turn the customer away, ShadeTec Films offered to fix it for free.

“Again, we are trying to build trust and relationships in our community,” he says. “In our experience, the small things go a long way, and that is what we focus on.”

That story captures the kind of reputation Granados wants to build: not one based only on finished projects, but on how people feel when they need help.

Building a Business His Children Can Learn From

When Granados talks about what makes him proud, he does not start with revenue, growth, or recognition.

“I’m excited that I’ve built a business that reflects my values and creates real value for others,” he says.

But the deeper motivation is personal. He wants the business to set an example for his children.

“If I can make this business successful, there’s no limit for them.”

That answer brings the story back to the heart of ShadeTec Films. Granados is building a company around technical skill, but also around values he wants to pass on: respect, integrity, service, and the courage to build something of your own.

For drivers in Amarillo and the Texas Panhandle looking for window tint, paint protection film, automotive film services, or vehicle protection, ShadeTec Films offers more than a finished installation. It offers a service model built around education, honest recommendations, quality workmanship, and long-term customer relationships.
