About Student Health Service At The University Of Pennsylvania

Student Health Service at the University of Pennsylvania provides a range of healthcare services with mixed reviews from patients. Many users praise the medical providers and nursing staff, particularly highlighting the care received from nurse practitioners like Perri Stella and Kathryn Smith, who are noted for their compassion and thoroughness. Patients appreciate the efficient appointments and quick follow-up on medical conditions. However, experiences with the receptionist staff have been notably negative. Some patients report rude and unhelpful interactions when trying to schedule appointments or request medication refills. This has caused frustration, especially for busy students who feel their needs are not met with flexibility or understanding. Despite these challenges, patients have found ways to connect with their healthcare providers through the MyChart portal, receiving prompt responses and support. Logistically, there are some concerns about the clinic's hours, with reports of closing earlier than advertised and outdated information on the website, making it important for patients to call ahead. Overall, while the healthcare services are highly rated, the reception experience detracts from the overall satisfaction of the Student Health Service at the University of Pennsylvania.

Student Health has really deteriorated over the past year. After shuttering the Wellness portal, Penn has made scheduling appointments significantly more difficult by forcing you to wait on hold for extended periods to schedule one manually. The clinic has also been inconsistent with billing my insurance, leaving me with bills which I should not have. There also has been turnover at the clinic which has been personally disruptive. The nurses and lab techs remain stellar, but after my preferred physician left, I haven't found a PCP with whom I feel comfortable. (We need better training on how to discuss health with LGBTQ+ patients at the clinic.) It's sad that Penn has...read full review

I just want to start by saying the medical providers and nursing staff are outstanding. Most notably the NPs Kathryn Smith and Perri Stella both have provided such compassionate care. 10/10 service. Would see them again and again.

The receptionist staff is the most horrible customer service I have ever received. As a very busy veterinary student who stays up to date with all of my annuals, I expect to be treated with care, and a little bit of flexibility and compassion when I call needing an extra month supply of birth control (that I’ve been on for over 10 years) before my annual comes up. I tried to explain to the receptionist that I’d like to leave a message...read full review

First, the physicians have helped me a lot and follow-up with me on my condition to see if further attention is needed. Usually, the appointment wait times are pretty short.
Logistically, it says on the website that on Saturday it is open 10-3. When I called, it was afterhours. I was lucky enough to be on the queue for a nurse callback, but the information on the website was outdated and misleading.
