Zanshin Martial Arts offers a welcoming and community-focused dojo with classes for all ages. The instructors are skilled, professional, and encouraging. Class sizes are wonderfully small, creating an effective learning environment. The dojo is a very nice and clean place, maintained by students who clean the mats and participate in a yearly deep clean, fostering a tight-knit community feel. They provide a remarkable price-to-value ratio, with monthly fees allowing access to multiple disciplines. The facility includes lots of free lockers and an area for parents to watch. The community is friendly and accepting, with experienced members offering helpful guidance. While most interactions are positive, the dojo is attentive to student dynamics. It is a comfortable place where students from kids to adults can train together in a supportive atmosphere.
Started taking the shindo jinen-ryu karate course in '23. The Sensei's are very skilled, professional, and encouraging. The class time is used effectively and attendee ages range from kids to old guys like me. You cannot beat the price-to-value ratio, considering $50 a month ($80 for families) lets you take karate, judo, danzan ryu, etc.
My daughter took the Monday/Wednesday class for about three months. I love that we rode public transit and walked to and from. I love the class size: in the warm months, there are maximum 11 kids. That's wonderfully small. I love that all the parents and instructors whom I met were friendly and accepting.Plus there's Gerald, a grandfather of a student who is a long-time expert in Salem-area martial arts: talkative, friendly, coached me how to tie the obi and what the names for everything are...
