About Portland Fruit Tree Project
Portland Fruit Tree Project is a dedicated 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides exceptional care for fruit trees in the community while addressing food inequity and environmental injustice. The organization envisions joyful communities that recognize the value of every fruit tree as a resource that enhances well-being and community networks. By using their paid fruit tree care services, individuals can ensure healthier trees and better harvests, which contributes to their mission. Each year, PFTP harvests and donates between 8,000 and 15,000 pounds of fruit that would otherwise go to waste. The organization is known for its kindness and impressive work, with one local food security organization praising how they help provide fresh, local produce to vulnerable neighborhoods. Customers appreciate the beautiful, healthy trees maintained by PFTP, and many look forward to future productive harvests. PFTP also hosts engaging events like the Charfruitree event, which showcases local vendors and offers delicious food options, creating memorable experiences for attendees. Additionally, the organization offers expert advice and hands-on support for growing and caring for fruit trees. One reviewer shared how staff like Rodra provided clear guidance and science-backed tips on pruning and caring for four fruit trees, making the learning experience valuable beyond just reading instructions. The organization’s team demonstrates exceptional knowledge across a range of topics, making their advice highly recommended for anyone interested in harvesting, pruning, or caring for fruit trees. Beyond tree care, PFTP creates vibrant educational programs, including a garden for children to learn about nature, get muddy in the dirt, and make friends with caring adults. These programs provide memorable, free learning experiences, such as a Spring Break event that offers children a chance to connect with nature. Overall, Portland Fruit Tree Project stands out as a vital local resource that brings the community together through sustainable practices, food security efforts, and educational opportunities.
This morning I had a wildly overgrown bunch of trees, shrubs, and vines. This afternoon, thanks to the wonderful crew from Portland Fruit Tree Project, I have a well tended orchard, vineyard, and berry patch(s). I cannot recommend them enough. They completely renovated my whole space.
I signed up for a consultation/coaching session to learn about the few fruiting trees on my property and how to maintain them throughout the year. The experts who arrived were extremely knowledgeable and great at communicating with someone like me who's had plants before but nothing requiring real knowledge or talent to keep healthy. We got some really great information and its nice to know I can always call them back for help with the actual pruning if I get over my head. Big thanks to them!
Rodra was an amazing support to us with navigating how to care for 4 fruit trees in our yard. She walked us through all of the steps really clearly, offering some solid science behind it, and then had some time where she could watch us prune and tend to the trees to make sure we got it. You could not get this type of learning just from reading/watching how-to’s. Beyond a solid org making fruit trees / food access more accessible in the community they are a solid learning org! Highly recommend their support!
