About Ronald McDonald House: Portland East
Ronald McDonald House Charities Portland East House offers comfort and support to families traveling to Portland for medical care of their seriously ill or injured child. For over 30 years, the House has provided a welcoming place to stay close to hospitals. The House offers comfortable and clean rooms, along with amenities like laundry facilities, game rooms, a library, a music room, and outdoor parks. Families can enjoy dinner provided at the House and have space to store their own food. The House also features a community garden where families can access fresh vegetables. The Ronald McDonald House relies on donations and volunteers to ensure families and their sick children are well taken care of during difficult times.
This place truly is a godsend, but on top of that, we ended up staying at 2 different locations and they were immaculate and organized and secure and the staff was beyond genuinely helpful and kind.
I can’t recommend the Ronald McDonald House enough. The staff are absolutely amazing. The volunteers are so kind and thoughtful. I don’t know what our family would do without this facility. It is in the ideal location. The amenities are amazing. The activities for children and families are great. If you have to be away from home and receive services or treatment, this is the place to be. I am so thankful. Our family is so grateful.
I have not used Ronald McDonald's services, but I'd love to share my experience at a volunteer for the "Meals from the Heart" program at RMHC. As I said on my review for the Waterfront house, this organization does great work and provides such a valuable service. They also make volunteering easy from sign-ups, to reminder emails, to suggested recipes/ingredients, to staff's help. The East house is slightly smaller than the one in SW. They have a small, free parking lot out front. The kitchen is well-stocked for cooking a meal, and the dining room has an amazing train track. If you're looking for a volunteer opportunity for 2-6, that is just a couple hours commitment, this is a wonderful one to choose.
