About Traditional Okinawan Karate of Pleasant Valley
Traditional Okinawan Karate of Pleasant Valley (TOKPV) is a family-oriented dojo that offers more than just martial arts training. It provides a supportive community where students of all ages can grow physically, mentally, and spiritually. The dojo is known for its welcoming atmosphere and fun, engaging classes. Instructors at TOKPV are passionate about their work and dedicated to the well-being of their students. They work well with children, including those with special needs, providing one-on-one support when necessary. Many students find the self-defense aspects they teach to be very practical, which enhances their experience. Structured lessons allow students to see their progress and stay motivated. The dojo fosters a sense of community through tournaments and events with other dojos. It has become a popular choice for birthday parties, with excellent entertainment and instruction. Overall, TOKPV is highly recommended for anyone looking for a positive and enriching martial arts experience. Whether for fitness, self-defense, or simply having fun, it is a great place for both kids and adults.
My 8 year old son has been attending karate classes at the dojo for 9 months and absolutely loves it. Each class is a mix of fun (think obstacle courses!) and discipline (learning precise moves in sequence, learning to be focused and respect the teacher). The instructors are kind but firm–I often see them handling kids' emotions with sensitivity. We love that it's a consistent, year-round sport and that our kid can feel a sense of progression and pride in his growing knowledge and skills.
I cannot recommend this school enough. Mr Borland and his entire team have created a warm and welcoming environment and encourage every student no matter the age or rank. My daughter was an incoming green belt from a former martial arts school and the growth we have seen in her here in just a few short months is incredible. The opportunities they provide are above and beyond.
My son loves the training he is getting here.
