“Excellent teacher with the patience of a saint (one of the really patient ones.) And unless you are George Benson, he can probably help you out. I really don't like classical guitar and after a few classes I really really didn't like classical guitar but his diagnostic helped clean up some of posture and technique issues in just a few lessons--I became more aware of when and where I was carrying tension and its led to a significant improvement in my playing after being stuck for way too long. I cannot relay how much happier this has made my wife who has had to suffer through my midlife crisis. If not for health and an unwillingness to mess with his pedagogy focus on classical, I would probably have kept on with lessons.Wholeheartedly recommend to anyone who needs help and wants to learn.“

“I recently finished a semester of taking voice lessons at this school. I had a great experience with one of their teachers, and I'd like to address an earlier review from Lily:"...but when my work schedule became more intense and I couldn't make my lessons, Cary School of Music charged me anyway. They will not refund the money and will continue taking drafts out of my account until the end of the semester. That means over $500 in charges for no lessons at all. This school is not understanding that things come up in life..."I completely disagree with this review! Note that the school's policy of requiring students to commit to their set time schedule of lessons *in advance* was communicated clearly up front. You do not have to sign their agreement and provide bank details if you don't like that policy and can't see yourself committing to it steadfastly. This is a fair policy that respects the teacher's time commitment. Teachers are not automatons, like vending machines dispensing a product. They are human beings with a skillset that is in demand by many in the community. They commit to the same exact schedule that the student commits to - in advance. If the student can't make their slot(s), the teacher would not be paid if the student expected a refund for their missed lesson. That is simply not fair and, furthermore, the teacher *could* have had a different, more reliable student agree to that same time slot up front, which would have guaranteed that teacher the set income that they have an expectation to rely upon, as any skilled professional would for their valuable time. Furthermore, the school itself has upkeep/admin costs and have a right to expect that the slots of time for the use of their building and resources are paid for by all students, whether they can attend at the times they agreed to or not. When a student can't attend, that revenue would be lost unexpectedly if there were an expectation of a refund - and again, that revenue *could* have been guaranteed had a more reliable student committed to those same slots of time.I highly recommend this music school and I completely endorse their payment policy, mainly for the sake of the teachers who are their most valuable resource.“

“I've been going to Leechford Music for 5 years. They have amazing teachers for all kinds of instruments along with a small music store that sells everything. The Leechfords are wonderful people and I'd highly recommend their small business to anyone!“

“John Billington taught me saxophone lessons for nine years, beginning when I was in 4th grade and ending when I graduated from high school. He taught me to play alto, tenor, and soprano saxophone.Mr. Billington is truly an expert musician. He taught me more than the standard repertoire that most young musicians learn to play. Together, we worked on classical music and duets, as well as jazz music and improvisation. There were several occasions where I went to a saxophone lesson hoping to learn something in particular, and Mr. Billington was always one step ahead of me, and could teach me everything that I wanted or needed to know.John's teaching skills are stellar. He always adjusted the pace that we worked at so that I was always working on something new. At the same time, he never pushed me to try and do so much in one week that I felt overwhelmed. This style worked very well for me, and it helped me learn a lot. I knew I always needed to prepare for saxophone lessons, yet I never once felt nervous or unconfident walking into a lesson.I really enjoyed competing in music competitions, and Mr. Billington helped prepare me well for contests. He helped me earn seats in the NC All-District Honors Band several years in a row, and helped me qualify and prepare for the NC All-State auditions several times as well. Additionally, I earned a place in the North Carolina Governor's School for music because of Mr. Billington's instruction.I cannot recommend working with John Billington enough. He is one of the kindest people I have ever met, and learning with him was certainly a highlight of mine growing up. I grew to consider John to be part of my family. We would always talk about things going on in my life, my friends, and when the time came, my college applications. Every single saxophone lesson with Mr. Billington was very fun, and I have always considered Mr. Billington as much a friend as a teacher.“
