“Stan Bodnar, the owner of Intelligent Design Corporation, received a call from me nearly four years after completing a comprehensive siding project. The project consisted of two types of siding. LP Smartside as well as steel siding. I am a close friend of the owners of this home and noticed some markings on the LP Smartside portion of the siding. I formerly worked in exterior sales so assisted the owners by handling this issue on their behalf.
Stan came out early Spring of this year and determined the caulking had bled. Neither of us had ever seen this before. Stan also had the manufacture come out and it was determined the OSI caulking was a bad batch manufactured COVID-era where certain compounds were hard to come by.
Stan went back and forth with OSI, but ultimately, OSI did not stand by their product. Stan, however, stood by his 10-year installation warranty and ate the costs of coming out and performing all the repairs. He even went so far as to repaint entire elevations where fiberglass material from the windows bled down onto the LP. (Not part of the caulking issue.)
I was in the industry long enough to know that this type of service after the final check has been cashed is extremely rare.
It's what happens in these types of finger-pointing situations that separates the wheat from the chaff.
