Northern Light Health Center, commonly called the Healthcare Mall, is a former shopping center in the Westgate neighborhood of Bangor near the Bangor International Airport. It contains a variety of medical facilities and specialist offices. Some patients report very good experiences with most of the doctors, with the occasional problem usually resolved fairly quickly. Plenty of specialists are available; patients should research or get a doctor’s referral first. The complex is very large for a city like Bangor, Maine, and is described as clean, safe, and friendly. One patient gets annual mammograms there and has always had a great experience, noting the technician is pleasant and competent, check-in staff are quick, and there is hardly ever a wait. The location is clean, easy to find, with great parking. However, real problems have been with administration. A new phone system at the primary care office no longer allows direct calls, sending patients to a call center instead. One patient was turned away from an appointment due to a computer error, and another was forced to drive three towns away to renew a prescription in person after being on hold for 20 minutes.
