“I've often driven past Jenn Shin Studio when I'm in Rockville, and since I was looking for a new stylist, I decided to finally reach out. From my first conversation with Jenn to scheduling my appointment, she was incredibly kind, knowledgeable, and professional. She truly cares about her clients -- even though she wasn't accepting new ones, she took the time to recommend stylists at her studio who would be a great fit for my needs. I ended up booking with Cindy, and she did not disappoint! She was so sweet and did an amazing job with both my cut and color. I asked for layers and a color that would blend my grays, and she nailed it! I highly recommend Jenn Shin Studio -- and especially Cindy!“

“I got my hair cut on a whim due to wanting a fresh start for the lunar new year. I really had no clear vision of what would look good on me but was able to find some clear inspiration pictures on Pinterest. Peng was very helpful in helping me come to a decision!

The haircut:
Peng was my stylist and I believe he did a great job. He was very approachable and skilled. We started with a hair wash, blow dry. Peng then blew my hair out, and finished with the haircut. I think this allowed for an easier way for me to see the vision. I am very pleased with how my hair turned out, and I’m glad I came to this salon.

As many reviews have mentioned: this is a primarily Chinese-speaking salon. This did present some communication barriers for me as Peng and I were unable to communicate as well as we would have wanted. Google translate did help a bit.

The space:
Tucked away on the side of a shopping center, the salon was a tad outdated and stuck to essentials. Otherwise clean and spacious. I also noticed that a lot of the brushes and scissors weren’t put into Barbicide. I’m not sure what the process of cleaning tools between clients is, so this is why I deducted 1 star due to me feeling a bit off about that.

Overall, I think my $75 haircut was well worth it for the amount of hair I cut off and getting to work with the pleasant Peng. If they up their cleanliness, I’d be sure to go back! Thank you, InStyle!“

“I have been a client of the L’or Salon since it opened in 2014. Before that, I have been a client of two of the three owners of the salon for nearly 25 years. Today, even though I have long since moved from D.C., I take a plane and fly across the country to see Nami at least once a year. I believe she may the best stylist in the country, and she has perfected the Japanese thermal conditioning treatment. Beyond that, Nami has become a trusted personal friend for whom I have the highest respect and admiration.

The salon is extremely clean in a beautiful area of Rockville. Tools are sanitized frequently. Nami is frankly OCD about cleanliness, as am I. In our post-Covid era, this is very important.

The staff is very friendly, and they go out of their way to welcome their clients. They know everyone’s personal story and make customers feel like family. I am especially happy to support the salon because it is owned, operated, and staffed by the most diverse team I ever have encountered in the beauty industry.

Nami will take the time that you need to give you flawless hair, whether you are seeing her for a haircut, color, updo, or treatment. For example, if you have long, wavy hair, expect to spend at least five hours in the salon undergoing the Japanese thermal conditioning treatment. But your hair will be straight, shiny, and strong, when you emerge from the salon, and the treatment will last for the life of that hair. You will need to be treated again when significant new hair growth occurs, but most people will not need more than 1-2 treatments per year.

On a personal note, Nami is friendly but not intrusive. She is discrete, trustworthy, and sophisticated. Nami takes the time to listen and respond to each client’s personal preferences. She will make recommendations, but she is not overbearing. She is fair-minded about pricing. She takes good care of her clients because it is a reflection of her own character but also because she genuinely cares. I feel incredibly fortunate to have found Nami, and I fully intend to be a lifelong client.

I am proud to refer friends and family member to Nami, Victor, Paul, and Elba at the L’or Salon because they are exceptionally good at what they do. They care about their clients. And they work incredibly hard to get the last hair in place. If you are looking for perfectionists who will take the time to create lovely hair, then the L’or Hair Salon is the salon for you.

“I've been a client of Anne's for years and love her new salon. The location is easy to get to and there is plenty of parking. I love how Anne cuts my hair, which tends to be fine and she finds ways to add back volume. She always gives me a head massage during the shampoo and it really relieves the tension in my head and neck. She is super responsive to text messages which is great because my work schedule is a little demanding and I've had to reschedule hair appointments at the last minute.
