Windows Installation near West Roxbury

“Very happy with my new windows, a year later!

Right before last winter we did about 30 windows (2 floors + a basement laundry room window with vent) and a storm door. Initially I went in to their showroom on Centre Street in West Roxbury and chatted with Mellissa about our needs — she knows windows well! She was very patient in explaining the different window models and why or why not we should go with one vs. another. I felt she was thinking of my needs throughout rather than trying to sell me the most expensive windows. George came in to measure. He was also very friendly and patient in sharing his expertise on whether we should replace some of our newer windows done in 2007. We ended up replacing two of those and leaving two others as was based on his suggestions.

Ordering and scheduling installation was quick as Melissa is very responsive to emails. Installation itself went smoothly. Took 3 crew members to install all our windows over two days, they came in on time at 8am and finished around 1-2pm each day. Cleaned everything up spotlessly inside and outside the house. We did take out the storm windows and moved the furnitures ourselves beforehand though to make this process efficient, so depending on setup installation may take longer or shorter time.

Our old windows were the originals with our house, so about 100 years old. We chose white Harvey classic except one fancy Provia window with a colored-frame -- it turned out so pretty! It was helpful that we stayed during the installation process to check on new windows instead of waiting till everything was done. Our window frames were a bit warped given age, so on the fancy window I wanted some additional adjustments after installation was completed. We also asked not to caulk inside some of the windows as we had plans to take the side planks off to repaint soon. Crew was super friendly and competent and did exactly as I asked.

Again, very happy with the overall process! Checked with other contractors as well, felt King shade/window was very responsive, flexible, fast, and honest. Some other contractors wouldn’t even tell me how much a window typically costs without doing measurements first!“

“I'm a returning customer. Greg previously redid my basement fireplace. This time he redid my house's original 1960s slate flagstone entry walkway and brick stairway. The walkway was redone with grey beacon hill flagstone concrete pavers and a boarder of charcoal concrete pavers. He repaired the brick stairway foundation and refinished it with fieldstone veneer fronts, blue granite treads, and blue mist granite pavers on the landing. To my flower beds, he added Stanstead granite cobblestone edging and retaining wall on the side by my driveway. As a nice finishing touch, he spread loam on the soil along the length of edging and walkway where the lawn had been disrupted, to prep it for us to plant grass seed. Last, but not least, he added a granite step to my shed entrance. It looks beautiful! At every step of the process, Greg was prompt, friendly, patient and informative. He's dedicated to his trade and the job on hand and he's hard-working. As I shared in my first review, he knows his trade exceptionally well, which is reflected in his work. “Mastercraft replaced the roof on our 1873 mansard house in Cambridge. The project was extensive, covering the mansard sides, peaked top, an L-shaped flat roof over an extension, a bay window, an overhang at the front door, and the flat roof of a mudroom, plus new gutters, soffits, and window trim.

The crew, led by Alex, worked diligently for 10 full days, completing long hours and cleaning up meticulously at the end of each day. John O'Brien, the owner, was great to work with. He helped us select an asphalt shingle with a bit of color, which served as a fitting replacement for the original 152-year-old slate. The initial quote was clear and detailed, and the final price was only about 10% more due to necessary permits, dumpster overweight from the old slate, and new plywood sheathing for rotted wood.

John handled the logistics of working in Cambridge, including the necessary permits for construction and the dumpster. Both his roofing supplier and dumpster company were excellent, with drivers who skillfully navigated our narrow street without any issues. John was responsive to texts and calls, easy to work with.

We will not need a new roof anytime soon, but I would hire Mastercraft again.“
