“Concerning the only experience we've had with IU ARNETT, the 2nd floor ICU: I do just want to take the time to state that the staff, the level of attention, care and the hospital experience as a whole at IU ARNETT has been exemplary compared to the other hospitals we've been to. Which I can get that hospitals are short staffed and overworked, I completely get that. The bar isn't very high on expectations. -The attention and respect of just having the pharmacist call the first morning to confirm with us what medications he is or isn't currently taking and not just assuming and giving him medications he hasn't taken for over 2 years... -The staff taking their best effort to ensure that his pain regimine is followed and not trying to stretch it out 9 to 12 hours.. -The staff responding to equipment alarms in a prompt manner (within 10 minutes) and not leaving it beep and beep and beep for 40-60 minutes while an IV bag sits needlessly empty... -The staff giving proper hygiene protocol to a cancer patient with a compromised immune system daily, instead of expecting a person to go 15 days without even so much as a single spongebath as has happened at the other hospitals. -The staff's concerns for making sure he is on a safe diet to prevent respiration or accidental choking, but then also respecting our judgment and allowing us the ability to call the shot on switching back to a normal diet when explaining there never being an issue with consumption. -The staff promptly staying on top of draining catheter tanks, commode bench tanks, and not half-assed pouring bodily fluids in and on the toilet and floor and just leaving it there with a dirty towel over it for 3+ days as experienced elsewhere.. -The overall demeanor of the staff as a whole, not once was there ever a bad attitude or a condescending talk-down, everyone has always been very open about discussing findings and allowing us the opportunity to confirm that we already knew of given findings but appreciating their care in bringing it to our attention and allowing us the autonomy to discuss what should or shouldn't be of importance. Just barely touching the good experience. What's even more impressive is that this is all taking place over a weekend. Not to bring the other 2 hospitals we've been to down, I get the current climate, but there are so many small details that are easy to do and really project a sense of caring for the wellbeing of the life that has been trusted in your hands.“
