“I’ve been to see Dr Chang a few times over the years. He and his staff are amazing and are always super kind and patient with my chickens. With my first chicken he saved her life after she likely ate something toxic and she ended up living another few years. My second chicken made it to 8.5 years and when she finally passed (naturally) their team sent my family a card ?.

As a bunny mom to two different breeds of rabbits, it’s hard to find a vet that specializes in rabbits not just dogs & cats . “Been coming here with all my babies for the last 9 years. I’m only writing this review now because a couple of my friends had bad experiences at their vets that I was bewildered by; I told them I had never experienced anything like that at THPC so I referred them and they made an appt immediately — and were BLOWN AWAY by how amazing the staff was. Back story - I used to bring my old dog here years ago. When my family came back from Japan with a new dog, this office wasn’t open.

My dog was not acting like his usual self. His normal vet could not see him. I was told I needed to call around to other offices. I noticed Kailua Pet Hospital was open and decided to call. The gentleman who answered the phone at the front desk was so helpful and got me in within an hour. Dr. Thornburg was amazing and my dog felt comfortable with everyone in the office. It was decided that my dog more than likely injured his neck. We were sent home with meds that visit to help him feel more comfortable. Thank goodness he was able to be seen and the doctor figured it out, because he was in so much pain and the next day he was feeling so much better.

After we moved we struggled a bit with finding the right vet who could help our cats. They’ve been struggling after the change, two have been fighting and one has been isolating.

Our first visit we met with a vet who suggested environment changes and setting up spaces for each cat so they could feel more comfortable. She gave us a print out as well with suggestions and tips on how to deescalate cat fights and it even had a list of suggested toys and trees! This helped a lot, we got a wheel for our Manx who has a lot of energy and she stopped fighting our male cat, the cat trees also helped our other female to have spaces and spots near my husband while he’s home who she absolutely adores. The only one who still wasn’t settling was our male.

Our second visit was to talk about our male cat specifically. We were concerned that something was happening that we couldn’t see. Pain, anxiety, or some other factor as he was pacing the house, meowing constantly, and completely inconsolable. The vet was completely on track with us, she suggested a blood panel to check for an underlying condition as well as a pain killer since he is older and is high risk for arthritic pain. We are waiting for an appointment to get the blood panel done since he needs to be sedated for it (he’s spicy but we love him), but we are very pleased with our experience so far ?

Update: the painkillers helped our boy so much and he became so much happier and cuddlier after this pain was managed.

We unfortunately had to say goodbye to him in September when he had a urinary blockage. It was an extremely hard time for me, he had been my companion for 10 years and played a huge part in my life and in the lives of others who knew him. This hospital did an amazing job being compassionate and kind during the whole process. They handled everything delicately and professionally while also being willing to work with and communicate with us on every aspect. I cannot emphasize how much this hospital has solidified a spot in our family’s heart.

“We needed same day help as our cats face was swelling on one side. Surf Paws gave us a same day appointment. They were so kind & asked us a lot of questions to determine what might have happened & they were spot on with a potential scuffle with another cat who keeps coming in our yard. They did a procedure to ease her discomfort & we left with antibiotics not in banana liquid form but in a little crushable tablet! Yes the banana medicine is a nightmare with cats lol. The bill was graciously less than we'd expected. Our cat is on the mend. Thanks Surf Paws! I'll be signing up my other two pets with you. They'll be in great hands.“

“I rarely leave reviews but I had a great experience here today. My sick cat loved the employees who helped him out. They got us in for a same-day appointment and treated my kitty with love and care. I took this photo to show my boyfriend how much the cat enjoyed the vet but it made me laugh so I'll share here.“

“Sometimes you just have to be an advocate for your dog when they get older. I noticed her eyes were going bad from diabetes and I really wanted to see an eye specialist. There are two on this island and this one was preferred out of the two options. It took several months for the first original appointment, which to me seemed kind of normal to see an animal specialist. But once you get in the other appointments seem to be easier. I think the one thing I noticed is that they seemed to be kind of old school. Appointments were scheduled over the phone and manually on a appointment book. Receipts are also not soft copies either to emails. A lot of times you're leaving a voice message on their phone, but it seems like the receptionist has several jobs to do there. Otherwise, everyone there is friendly and we really liked the doctor. She was so very patient and kind to nala which we really liked and always had her best interest. Some key notes - you must have a face mask on if you want to go inside. Prior to your appointment you must wait outside until you're called in for yours. The location is on a one way street in a alleyway so it's very easy to miss.“
