About Hilo Medical Center
Hilo Medical Center is the leading provider of inpatient and outpatient care on the Big Island, offering a full range of services and programs on its 20-acre campus. The 157-bed acute care and 35-bed long-term care facility employs 1,100 staff and has a medical staff of 250 community physicians, physician assistants, and Advanced Practice Registered Nurses, representing 33 specialties. As a Level III Trauma Center, the hospital's 24-hour emergency room is the second busiest in the state, serving over 49,000 patients annually. Patients praise the knowledgeable and understanding doctors, as well as the helpful and kind support staff. The nursing staff, including the "blonde nurse woman with glasses," have been described as excellent, efficient, and friendly, providing exceptional care. The hospital's cardiology suite has also received positive feedback. While the entrance emergency security was noted as less than ideal, the overall experience at Hilo Medical Center is one of aloha and quality care.
I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude to the incredible anesthesiology team, my ENT surgeon and his staff, as well as the amazing hospital employees who cared for me throughout my recent surgeries and recovery at Hilo Benioff Medical Center.

Every single person I encountered — from the doctors and nurses to the support staff and hospital employees — treated me with kindness, dignity, reassurance, and genuine care during one of the most difficult and vulnerable times in my life.

Had hernia repair surgery last week. The entire crew, from the nurse that placed my IV and her student nurse, Dr. Bochkarev, the surgery crew and recovery staff, including the one nurse that was retiring but stayed to help, were all top notch. My top praises to them all.
Husband actually stayed this time and let the doctors take take of him and because we have small children and work I can’t make it to the hospital for days so I was grateful to be able to know what’s going on with my husband while he was in there for a week.. doing much much better now
