“I love Curlpop! I’ve been a loyal customer since 2021.

I come from a Dominican family, and like many Latinas, I grew up in a culture where curly hair was seen as something to “fix.” The infamous “pelo malo” label followed me for years. Straight hair was the beauty standard, and anything else was considered unkempt or unacceptable.

I went through endless straightening, relaxers, and treatments trying to make my hair look “presentable.” I never learned how to take care of my natural texture—only how to hide it.

During COVID, it hit even harder. With salons closed, I had no choice but to face my curls. I would slick my hair back with gel just to avoid letting anyone see it.
