I just want to say they honored the purchase of my brother's headstone and it is beautiful. Yes it did take a few years but they did it for me. The owner has honest values but was in a hard spot. He didn't have to complete my order but he did. Thank you Mike and team!!!!“

“Gracelawn Memorial Park and Affiliated Funeral Director - Committal Service May 16, 2026
On May 16, 2026, my spouse of 16 years was interred at Gracelawn Memorial Park. The decedent passed in my presence. Due to documented intrafamily conflict and reasonable apprehension for my personal safety, I chose not to be physically present at the graveside. I observed from a separate location on the cemetery grounds to ensure my emotional being was protected. I parked at my daughter’s grave after placing a red rose. I walked to a safe location, dropping red roses on other graves along the way. Some dated back to 1939. I spoke their names out of respect.
Prior to interment, I provided verbal notice to the funeral director regarding safety concerns involving certain individuals. The director confirmed my legal authority as next of kin and coordinated a safety protocol with Gracelawn management. This included real-time phone contact during the service and staff positioning.
The committal service was executed with dignity and adherence to cemetery regulations. Beyond standard care, the funeral director maintained continuous phone contact, providing location updates regarding individuals of concern and advising on my positioning for safety. All communications were professional and timely.
Gracelawn grounds personnel maintained situational awareness. The foreman and crew established a line-of-sight position between the committal site and my location. Staff monitored movement throughout the property. When certain individuals engaged in conduct consistent with an attempt to locate me, cemetery staff intervened through presence and protocol. At no time did staff engage in confrontation. All actions were preventative and consistent with their duty to maintain order on private property.
As a result, the decedent was interred without incident. I witnessed the committal while maintaining security. No breach of peace occurred.
The conduct of the funeral director and Gracelawn staff exceeded the standard of care expected in the death care industry. They demonstrated competent risk assessment, proper exercise of premises authority, and professional discretion without disruption to the service or to any individual.
For families experiencing conflict or safety concerns: Provide notice to your funeral director in advance. Authorize cemetery staff, through your director, to implement protective measures. Understand cemetery grounds are private property and staff have authority to manage conduct.
I extend my professional commendation to the funeral director and Gracelawn staff. Their actions preserved the dignity of the decedent, protected the safety of the legal next of kin, and upheld professional standards under adverse conditions. Their service is Exemplary and recommended without reservation for families requiring burial services involving complex dynamics.
