We have boarded our Irish sporthorse mare at Ciara West for almost three years. We have been at a few other places on the coast (HMB, Pacifica) and this is hands down the best boarding situation in the peninsula. It's only 35 minutes from the southern part of SF , quick and easy to get there. It feels so remote and the views are amazing. The horse care is stellar- our horse gets 8 hours of turnout in a huge pasture per day and then is in a cozy stall at night. The staff takes exceptional care of the horses- feed 3x a hay, high quality grass hay imported from Oregon. The covered arena is open 7 am-9 pm and is well-lit which makes riding in all weather/year round completely possible. The arena is dragged every day and there is also a fabulous dressage court that is open almost year round (only closes under heavy rain). There are two trainers on site- an eventer/jumper and dressage. The atmosphere is friendly and non-competitive. Many are long-term boarders and everyone helps each other out. There are no "lesson-horses" only private boarders and leasors who can take lessons. The arena and dressage court are rarely crowded - my daughter usually had the place to herself.

I came back to riding after a long hiatus and was nervous, but she helped me feel confident and secure about getting back into the saddle. Portola Valley is also an amazing facility.
The day I met Robert Porterfield.It was many many years ago in the late 90's. I was with a long time friend having lunch and I said .that I really need someone that can help me with my irrigation. The trees and bushes planted around my small property need more room. The first break in the PVC unexpectedly. happened.I called Peninsula Irrigation and someone was sent out immediately and.the break was repaired immediately..One day after a tree died and was removed I called Peninsula irrigation and other other plumbers to bid on rerouting; the line connected to the meter. I chose Peninsula Irrigation.When I came home to meet with Peninsula Irrigation I saw two people checking the layout of pipes, Robert looked up and he said "Tony I have to tell you the route you requested was completed under the bricks and connected to the meter near to the curb"" .The job had all ready been done twenty years sooner.Well what can I say?I only use Peninsula Irrigation "thank you Robert"I
I have been involved with horses in the Bay Area since Golden Gate Park stables was still a functioning business. Since then I have been to many stables between Pacifica and Half Moon Bay. After years of being on the coast, I cannot express the gratitude I feel to have found Chaparral Ranch at Woodside and being accepted in to their community. I am one of the boarders at Folgers stables and I have not been this happy since my very early days in Pacifica. Shawn and his team have been invaluable to me. They take exemplary care of my horse. He is fed quality food, turned out and all his needs have been met. Most recently I experienced a medical emergency that required him to be medicated multiple times a day. The Chaparral team came together to assist me in medicating my horse when I was not able to do it. After my years of being on the coast where I would have been stuck on my own handling this challenging situation, the response the Chaparral team had to caring for my horse was amazing. I cannot recommend this barn enough. Whether you are an advanced rider or a child or adult beginner looking to learn about horses, Chaparral will welcome you in and give you a positive experience. THey care for their boarders, the people that come to take lessons, their staff and, most importantly, their lesson horses. Its been nothing but a joy to be there. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would!!!
