About San Francisco Marriott Union Square

The San Francisco Marriott Union Square offers a great location for exploring downtown San Francisco, with convenient access to the convention center. The hotel provides the usual Marriott quality of lodging and services, and is highly recommended. Guests enjoy magnificent views and a wide variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. The service is excellent, from the friendly and helpful bellboys to the reception, and even passing managers. The concierge staff, such as Jeff, provide exceptional assistance, a warm, affectionate, caring spirit, and attention to detail. The hotel is very clean, though some guests suggest a better job of cleaning is needed in the rooms. It is a good location, close to bars and restaurants, and feels very safe.

It is a bit of a tired hotel, not quite at the standard level that we can expect in 2026: poor soundproofing- we got woken up multiple times every night by folks talking in the hallway, street noises are also poorly muted -, and as noted by many the amenities are scarce (sad coffee maker, a fridge, and that’s it, not even a filtered water dispenser available at the shared ice station).

On the plus side, the view was great from our room, the WiFi worked, the doormen greet everybody with enthusiasm and they professionally moved our luggage to our room, the gym is fine (no swimming pool though), didn’t try the breakfast as it was outrageously expensive...read full review

On this occasion we stayed for a family trip, the location of this Marriott is perfect, close to everything, centrally located.

At check in Nan was helpful and professional, I could tell she liked what she does, because of staff like her is the reason we are loyal to the Marriott brand.

Excellent in every way! The room and its view were impressive. The breakfast was fantastic. The business lounge and its food offerings were incredible as well as the view from the lounge. All workers that we encountered were very friendly and helpful. This made our 2 night stay in San Francisco so enjoyable. Super walkable to Chinatown, the historic cable cars loading area, and Oracle Park was about a 1 mile, easy walk.
