About Th&h Hardwoods & Hardware
Th&H Hardwoods & Hardware is a San Diego-based store catering to woodworking enthusiasts and professionals. They offer a comprehensive selection of over 25,000 products, including specialty hardwoods, softwoods, power tools, bits, hardware, finishes, and hinges. Customers praise the store for its high-quality materials and extensive hardwood selection. They highlight the competitive pricing, particularly for sheet goods like plywood, which they find less expensive and of higher quality compared to big box stores. The store is also recognized for its knowledgeable staff who are willing to provide advice and guidance on projects. Customers appreciate the staff's expertise and honesty, even when recommending less expensive materials that are more suitable for specific projects. The store is considered a one-stop shop for all woodworking needs, with a diverse range of products that surpass those found in big box stores or chain stores. Th&H also stands out for its selection of Japanese and German-made tools. While the store does not offer delivery, customers acknowledge this as a minor inconvenience, especially considering the quality and selection available.
I have zero clue what the deal is with the negative reviews of the staff are all about. I've been woodworking for a few years now and TH&H is my go to spot for just about anything when I need high quality. Service: Excellent. They know their stuff and more than willing to give input on projects if you ask. They've even steered me away from more expensive items after I describe what I'm building due to it being overkill. It says something about service when a sales rep will advise for cheaper material (that is ultimately better for what I'm building). Honest sales tactics like this are one of the reasons why I've spent thousands at this place. I've been helped by a ton of people here (who have all been fantastic) and a few names that deserve a pat on the back are Susan and Bob. Thank you for the free advice! Material quality: You have to hunt at times but the quality is there and there's always going to be a bit of scavenging to find what is right for your project. I've very rarely left there without exactly what I need. Pricing: This place will be expensive but for board feet, it's pretty competitive and IMO the best quality for price in San Diego. Hardwoods... their selection is insanely diverse. Sheet goods: Their AB quality plywood is LESS EXPENSIVE than the big box stores and HIGHER QUALITY. The best part about the plywood is that I have SIGNIFICANTLY less warping after bringing it home than I do with HD or Lowes. This is because of less moisture content, better atmosphere control and higher quality than the alternative. The only knock I have on this place is that they don't deliver but TBH, I'll just rent a truck if it means I can pick out the pieces on my own. If you have a project (big or small) and regardless of skill level, don't anywhere else for your materials. This place is the real deal.
One of the best places for all fine carpentry and woodworking needs. I'm a wood Sculptor and a carpenter. One of my favorite places. Fair prices and great products! Very knowledgeable staff.
I just moved to San Diego from Redondo Beach where I was a customer at Hudson & West in Torrance. I thought moving to San Diego would leave me wanting for a store like that. To my gleeful surprise this store exists here and is even bigger and better. AND owned by the same people! Made my day! Great selection of wood and tools that you definitely won't find at big box stores or even the chain store competition. Nice selection of Japanese and German made tools.
