our electric cooktop control module failed about five years after installation...the thermador repair guy came out first and quickly figured out that it needed a new control unit. the second time he brought a control unit, which was not the correct one for our cooktop...we pointed out the problem, which was that the part was simply for another version of the cooktop. he had noticed that the wiring didnt match on installation. he finally came back with a correct unit, and it finally works again. service was relatively slow, with about three months from the first check to final repair. and, its not cheap!! the repair guy was friendly and professional. Its hard to get thermador appliances fixed well by independents.. so, using the manufacturer does offer some advantages.
