I really like Axis! I travel to the Bay once a month and was looking for a place to work out. Axis was so warm and welcoming right from the beginning and continues to be that way. Because it is a small gym it is very personal - the owners and other staff check in with you and take an active interest in fitness goals. The equipment is great as well. I have also benefited from personal training with Sergio, who is very experienced and knowledgeable.
First rate facility & equipment; exclusively 1-on-1 personal training plus you can use cardio equipment any time on your own. I love this place. It's for serious work but also fun and never intimidating and definitely geared for all levels. My wife and I have been going 2/week since Spring 2006 (at age 50) when we decided it was time to stop saying "someday" we'd get back in shape. Courtnie Steeves is an outstanding trainer: attentive, knowledgeable, patient, and motivational. She helped me lose 20 lbs., strengthen myself like I never imagined I could, and complete my first triathlon. I've trained with her since 2006. Also outstanding is Francisco Lara - he's a guy's guy, pushes hard but appropriately, and has helped make me achieve more than I ever imagined was possible. After 10+ years I've completed dozens of endurance events almost injury-free, thanks, I believe, to my strength training at Axis. Ain't cheap, but it's a worthy investment in your physical health and quality of life.
Axis PT is a gem. I was looking for a good place to work out for years after moving to Palo Alto, but nothing was a good fit. Then I found Axis and I haven't missed a week since because I love it so much. Many of the trainers and clients have been there for years, which I think speaks to the quality of the community they've built. Everyone I interact with is super friendly and supportive. There is a lot of really great equipment, which allows for varied and interesting workouts. Its fun to watch the trainers plan the next equipment they're going to get - its like new toys for them and the enthusiasm is contagious. You work out with a dedicated personal trainer, and from what I can tell all the trainers are super dedicated to helping their clients get great fitness results. My trainer is Ty Texidor, you can see her Yelp page for specific reviews on her excellent expert training. Personal training is expensive, but my investment has paid off in resolved-injuries and healthier habits and non-gym productivity. I'm so grateful I found my way to Axis, its been amazing!
