About Old Los Angeles Zoo

However, caution is advised due to broken glass and debris in the old cages, and visitors should stay alert, especially since it is a public park where some people might behave unpredictably. We always enjoy coming to the old zoo—it has a really unique charm. You can still see where the animals used to be kept, which makes it feel a bit nostalgic. Some of the cages are open to explore, while others are locked, but it still adds to the experience.
There are also great hiking trails leading up the mountain, plus a nice playground area with plenty of benches and open grass. It’s a perfect spot for a relaxing picnic—you can just lay out under the trees and enjoy the day. So many great little spots to choose from here!
Parking is obviously easier on a weekday.
This is a good place for light hiking. None of the surrounding trails are strenuous at all. You’ll probably see some coyotes around the picnic areas :)
Bathrooms are easily available near the parking lot!
We went here. It was a very fun experience probably won't do it again though we get to walk around and see a zoo that hasn't been used in 50 years not many people but a nice quiet place to spend the evening.
