Matt helped us realize that a charming single family home we were in escrow on needed considerable structural improvements and that the work of previous contracts cut a lot of corners. Over the course of a five-hour inspection, he carefully identified structural concerns, non-code-compliant work, and safety issues throughout the property.
He was professional, thorough, and appropriately clear about the limits of his role, noting when certain issues were beyond the scope of a home inspection and warranted evaluation by a structural engineer or other specialist. Even so, his observations gave us the information we needed to make an informed decision.
I cannot say enough positive things about working with Matt. Our appointment with him was easily the best money I have spent this year (maybe this decade) and saved us from getting into a very expensive situation where we would have been in way over our heads. Matt was prompt, polite, incredibly thorough, and very knowledgeable. He provided the right amount of context to paint a full picture. He did not mince his words and provided all of the information we needed to plan our next steps with the utmost level of confidence. He is direct without being abrasive and has a wealth of knowledge which was very much appreciated. I highly recommend working with Matt.

TL;DR - I had a wonderful experience with Matt and highly recommend Cantor Inspections. He is warm, gracious with his time, and incredibly knowledgeable. He wears many hats--part inspector, part anthropologist, part design historian, and so much more. Matt was communicative and able to fit in an inspection of my home almost immediately. I also found his rate to be very affordable, especially given the quality of work and his attention to detail.
Long Form Review - I live in Oakland and have a craftsman style house built in 1913. My wife and I bought the house in 2022 as first time homebuyers. We have been so happy in the home, but it has a range of... read full review
