“A hairdryer that I had been using for nearly 2 years suddenly tripped a GFCI outlet, and generated a strong burnt plastic smell. I called Thoma Electric the next day and Jason Garcia came out the same day. It turned out the GFCI unit was badly burnt (see photo); I was one step away from an electrical fire that could have destroyed my home.Jason quickly replaced the burnt unit, then explained that my 2,000 watts hairdryer (commonly sold these days) generates a 16+ amp current that overloaded my 15 amp circuit.
