Our 21 yo gas wall heater in our accessory unit in Encinitas would only turn on intermittently for many years, needing to be kicked to respond. We had a different repairman come out to “fix” it 5 years ago, but when we called him back within the week because it still wasn’t fixed, he charged us again to come out and still didn’t really fix it. We went ahead and replaced the thermostat ourselves which seemed to help. My house was built in the early 80's. I purchased it in 2016 & honestly believe the HVAC unit is the original. One day, my unit just stops blowing hot air. Now, living in San Diego, this really isn't an issue but every now and then Escondido has extremely cold nights. I decided to have the unit inspected looking for advice on repairs. Listening to KSON, they recommended Mauzzy ( spelling???) heating and air so I called them for a $99 inspection. Long story short, the guy said my unit was too old and he recommended replacing the entire unit for $16-20k. I said nope and he left.
