About 24 Hour Fitness

24 Hour Fitness offers clean and friendly gyms with motivating fitness classes and a variety of equipment. The spacious facilities include premium strength and cardio machines. Personal training services are also available. Some reviewers have noted issues with cleanliness and maintenance, mentioning dirty equipment and bodily fluids present in the gym. The men's locker room is described as filthy and the showers abysmal. There seems to be a shortage of high traffic equipment such as squat racks and barbell benches, but there have been recent improvements in this area with the addition of more racks and benches. The gym can get very crowded at all hours, making it difficult to use certain machines. Some reviewers have suggested that management consider expanding to provide more space for free weights and floor-based exercises. The leg weight machines are described as weird, not enough of them, and made for people who are shorter. However, the El Cerrito location is described as sparkling clean in comparison to other locations. The cardio machines are good, and it's a good place for an upper body workout. It is also one of the only late night gyms open in the area.

I've been a member for many years and I'll keep using this specific location--but that's because I have no choice. My membership comes to me through my health insurance, so I'm stuck. I have the same complaints as many other people here: The staff doesn't care, many many machines are broken and remain out of service for weeks/months. The men's bathroom and showers in particular are appallingly filthy. This won't be fixed by any amount of mopping, a deep cleaning of everything is really, really needed. It's like the management of this place only cares about maximizing its profits and does little in terms of putting money back into the place. It looked great when it first opened, now it's shabby and dirty. And it looks like it's getting even worse with each passing month. Too bad.

Pros- Parking is decent, gym is pretty clean. Cons- the same equipment has been broken for months, paper towels get replaced weekly if you’re lucky, what appears to be black mold on ceiling tiles above men’s shower, and they only have one of machines they should have two of for a gym that size. Leg day or dumbell area is a nightmare if you work regular hours.

This club is closest to me, and it's a super sport club. I am only interested in the Les Mills classes; body pump is the one I do here because there's no body step or body attack or Les Mills core. I did not like the yoga because the instructor kept saying lock your knees and that's a big no no no, and she was pronouncing savasana wrong so I kept wondering where she got her training! But a couple of the body pump instructors are really good! That said... The men's locker room is absolutely filthy and the showers are abysmal. I don't even go in there except to grab a locker and change my shoes.
