Patients have praised the department for its compassionate and supportive care, particularly from the nursing staff. One new mother appreciated the encouragement from nurses Alex and Katelyn, which helped her achieve a successful VBAC. A retired Family Physician was impressed with the quality of care, diagnosis, and compassion from the entire team, including guards, nurses, X-ray technicians, and physicians, despite the busy atmosphere. Overall, patients have reported receiving attentive and fast care, and would recommend Alta Bates Campus Emergency Department for emergency care. The department is taking extra precautions to ensure a safe environment for patients.
Recently left a negative review of this place based on an experience I had in 2021. Had the occasion to go back Nov. 2025 in order to get an emergency surgery and my impression did a full 180, I was SHOCKED. This place was full of speedy, attentive, and really kind people who helped me at every turn. They let me ask a million questions and took my healthcare very seriously. It felt great to be treated like a fellow human as well as a patient. Thank you Alta Bates!
This was my first time going to the ER and it was not what I was expecting. All the staff were very nice and helpful. From the security at the front to the nurses and the technicians. Everyone was helpful and friendly. I honestly expected it to take longer, for folks there to be stressed out and short. But everyone was professional and caring. Hopefully I don’t ever go back :) But thanks to everyone who helped and got me back on my feet.
It pains me to give such a low review because I was born here, my daughter was born here, my father practiced here for decades, my sister works here. I love Alta Bates. But this ER has really gone downhill. And I know it’s not all their fault because of how hospital ERs are these days with the boarding issues, etc.
I came here on 11Sep2025, a Thursday around 4 pm, with a dislocated and broken shoulder after a fall. My arm was hanging uselessly by my side, and I was in the most severe pain I’ve been in since childbirth. No one came out with a wheelchair.
