“I was in the process of doing my garage remodel around first week of July 2025. I was working on taking the siding off to replace the sheeting and noticed a lot of rotten wood. I built a temporary wall for more support and ran to the store for some more sheeting. After we got back from the store with the sheeting, my wife went around the side and i went into the garage to start unloading the material. My wife was out in the yard with our dog and yelled for me to come outside because the garage appeared to be leaning now. I came out to look at her concern. The garage actually did look like it was leaning now. I went back in to grab the level to double check on what could have happen. It had to be the wind i told myself. The level was in the back of the garage. Im in the back of the garage to see how far the walls are out of plumb. Well the garage started to collapse! My wife yelled that it was falling and it was, so i ran and dove out with part of the garage hitting me on the back! I was in shock that i made it out and was alive. i was in pretty bad shape, Broken Ribs, cuts bruises, and really sore for obvious reasons.
After gathering myself i grabbed our insurance policy to see what was to see what will be covered if anything. This was on a Saturday so i submitted a claim. The following Monday i heard from our claim specialist. The insurance company sent out a field rep and a rep from DKI to assess the damage. T,he garage was a total loss.
Well come to find out on our policy we have garage collapse and was covered. Since the rep was so knowledgeable i was going to use DKI for the removel and then rebuild. DKI sent some workers out and by the end of the week the garage was dismantled and hauled away. After meeting with DKI rep about the new garage build we had a plan together to build my dream garage! After a few delays because of the 100 year flood the Milwaukee area had, they started shortly after. Everyone on the DKI Team that was on the garage project was very nice and professional. The demo team, Carpenters the roofers the siders all were fantastic.
Since they were doing the garage roof i had them tear off and replace our house shingles as well. I would HIGHLY recommend DKI for any of your projects. DKI will be back in the spring of 2026 to do the few remaining projects. Thank You DKI for building my dream garage.“
