A wonderful resource for healthy exercise to improve fitness while reducing the chances of injury. In our experience, Pilates on Harrison has been very useful and enjoyable in several ways. There are several instructors focusing on various forms of exercise to improve mobility, flexibility and strength – very important for those of us farther along on the age graph. We have been doing guided exercise classes remotely. Our main focus is on classes led by Scott – a smart, funny and engaging guy with decades of experience teaching yoga, which has evolved to include a creative mix of Pilates, western fitness, mindfulness and meditation. That might sound like a hodge-podge mixture, but it is a well integrated and enjoyable combination. Scott’s classes are live via YouTube (we can see and hear him, but he can’t see or hear us – although we can send comments or questions via chat which he will address at the end of each session). One favorite class is Mindful Cardio – about 30 minutes of warm-up and cardio (heart rate monitor recommended to get “in the zone”), then about 15 minutes of guided exercises and 10 of guided meditation – for me, a great way to start the day (3 days a week). When schedules don’t align, we can replay classes from the video library at any time with unlimited replays. The library includes regular classes and some series focused on select topics, such as “Trashed Knees” within the “Pilates for Old Jocks” area – which my spouse found useful while preparing for knee replacement surgery. I’m sure all the instructors are well qualified - and there are additional classes that might appeal to other interests. Our monthly subscription gives us access to all the remote classes we choose and the library of recorded sessions at a very reasonable cost. We highly recommend Pilates on Harrison.
POH offers a wide variety of classes to improve balance, strength and flexibility. Instructors are stellar and offer cues and prompts to encourage correct form. This is a small, wonderful studio for a focused and safe workout.
Pilates on Harrison provides a menu of fitness and wellness offerings that supports individuals with a wide range of needs. Several private sessions can help to identify personal goals to address, with both small group beginner in-person classes and live stream / video virtual classes. Covid precautions of small size (4 max), masked and distance, all seem effective for promoting safe environment. Gradient of challenge exists in all formats of privates, small group and virtual. Diverse content of offerings includes Pilates, some aspects of Alignment Yoga, Cardio, Strength, and Meditation (conscious blending of these last 3 elements to support “resilience for doing what needs to be done”). Staff is very capable with knowledge base and creating class content that student can assimilate and build on, over 60 minutes. One challenge with smaller bsns size: may need to ask for advice on how to use scheduling options to secure in person group class at a time that works for you.
