    I’ve been training Brazilian jiu-jitsu for 15+ years and competed at the national level on behalf of other gyms in both California and Colorado. As an experienced woman and former competitor, it can be tough to find safe training environments with similarly safe training partners and coaches, so please understand when I say that this is one of the only gyms in the entire state of Washington where I have always felt safe and comfortable training.

    I joined Foster BJJ as a complete beginner as part of my recovery from a serious illness. Before the class even began, the head coach was communicating with me via email to ensure that I was safe to train, and gave me a step-by-step process (including being cleared by my doctors) before I began.

    When I began training, everyone was extremely friendly and supportive. The head coach made sure that everyone I trained with was aware of my health issues and I have never felt pressured to push past my limits.

    I went in for an open mat they had on the schedule. The expectation was for a low turnout but everyone was pleasantly surprised by 7 people showing up at a noon time, including 4 white belts. Was a good warm up followed by move drill requests followed by proper open mat. The upper belts had a lot of wisdom to share. I will be returning to this place in the future!
