Shippee Family Eye Care - Montpelier, VT

I recently had cataract surgery with Dr. Phipps & their team. Everyone was awesome! They're kind, respectful, friendly, caring. From receptionist to office staff to surgical staff, I couldn't ask for better care! They listened to my concerns & explained everything in a way I understood it. The doctor side of the practice was amazing. They didn't fantastic job dialing in my strong prescription. My appointment started promptly on time and was smooth through the whole process. Bonus, the doctors are in-person, not some remote controlled machine like other practices in the area. I wish I could separate that side of the practice to give them 5 stars.

My experience with the retail side was about as bad as it gets. I purchased glasses with the impression that my prescription, which included a bifocal, was being applied given the high price tag. Not the case. They were quick to sell me a $140 anti-reflective coating and scratch warranty upsell but failed to mention anything about progressive bifocal lenses and I ended up with single vision. They ordered the correct lenses in the end but I was still on the hook for the full retail price after having to drive across the state 4 times wasting gas, paying parking and taking time off work to get this sorted out. I plead my case in a calm and respectful manner but the manager wouldn't budge on price. Yet she offered me 15% off my next pair if I choose to come back next year. Even applying that discount, I can find glasses at far more reasonable prices just about anywhere else without all the hassle of incompetent employees and management that won't own up to mistakes made.

Cut my eye and they got me right in. 24 hours later feeling like it never happened

I was treated very well here. The man that got me prepared to see the Doctor was incredible. He was professional and just very helpful. The Doctor was a young lady who educated me by showing me my eye scans and explaining what is going on in there. She relieved my worry that I may have major problems. I can't leave out the ladies at the front desk. They were also very nice and professional. The whole office was clean and presentable. I hope who ever reads this chooses Shippee Family Eye Care! 🙏

My son is 4-years-old and he is nonverbal autistic. Last year, UVM Opthalmology treated us so unprofessionally and were very disrespectful, gaslighting me into thinking I shouldn't have shown up. Needless to say, it was ableist and unkind. Our PCP referred us to Shippee and we worked with Jeffrey and Dr. Erica Guelette. They were amazing. They met our son where he was, spoke to him knowing he couldn't respond but appreciates being included, extended kindness and warmth, and demonstrated patience, allowing him to engage in the exam at his own pace. They were able to conduct a successful exam, making our trip worthwhile. I will only be taking him here from now on. This is how all medical care should be. This is how easy it is to be inclusive
