We have been taking our cats to AAH for almost 4 years. I have always found the doctors and staff competent and professional. We have spent a lot of money here for our “boys” and understand top grade medical care costs. Today I was left disappointed. It was late in the day around 4:15 when my son stopped by to visit his elder cat Max and noticed his face was puffy and he had an injury. I called AAH to give them a heads up and after being placed on hold was told to take Max to an emergency vet like Bay Beach. I asked if they could see max in the morning as he was not in distress- they said there were no morning openings and to call Bay Beach. It’s here that I was disappointed they would not see a cat already an existing patient. Bay Beach said they were too busy to see Max but did advise me of a new practice on Dam Neck Rd. We called Vets Now. They have placed Max on the call list in position #5, we are able to stay home with Max until they call us to drive in. Yes, Max will get treatment, but we are just disappointed a bit in AAH.

The staff is great , they care about your pets the doctors are great as well and are understanding. They see exotics how cool is that ! I highly recommend coming here especially if your pet needs orthopedic surgery. Their grooming, kennel techs, receptionist and grooming staff are amazing as well. Shout out to Zajane, Lauryn, Chloe, Brittany, Emily, Destiny, Elaina, Katie, Brooke , Matt, Eve, Raivyn, Jenna and Kayla love them all! Kathy , Justin and Adriann are very helpful managers any issues at all they will help resolve it.

Front desk staff is rude. I do like some of the vets and the techs are normally pretty nice but some of these fees and hidden fees are absurd. $10 to write me a script that I can take to the pharmacy or to chewy.com? Please guys take your pets elsewhere. I’ve had dogs and worked in rescue my whole life and I’ve never heard of such absurd practices. It’s basically charging you a penalty for not filling a script there because filling the script in house will cost you 4 to 8 times more on average. Everytime I go there there are some hidden fees, or a new assanine policy. I was originally excited because they see exotics of which I have a few but after having multiple negative experiences ( I’m on my 5th visit you’d think I’d learn my lesson)

They must be making a killing too as they hire kennel staff at a lousy $12 an hour. Check indeed if you don’t believe me. Tons of good vets out there I’m sure. This will be my last visit here.

I just wanted to add I asked why they charge $10 for a script and she said so she can recoup costs in house. Basically, your money is more important than your pet. Not like owning pets isn’t expensive to begin with. End this policy to attract new clients.

In regards to your response: In no way was I interested in working here. I saw it on indeed and clicked on it out of curiosity and was floored by the low pay. Interacting with the rude front desk staff is enough for me without working with them daily and lowering myself to a pay I haven’t made in over a decade.

Your tech told me straight from her mouth “ it is to recoup costs” I have asked several vets in the area, one even going so far as to say it is illegal to charge for scripts. I researched this and could not verify that was true for Virginia but that it is illegal in some states and highly discouraged so I did not include that but something about “choice of service”

Also please consider that a dog that needs bloodwork to be re prescribed a very safe thyroid medication does not need an ultrasound of its bladder. I called her original vet to confirm this. They were quite confused and repeatedly asked me for what indicated an ultrasound?

I also called ahead to state my dog is highly reactive to vaccines especially lepto and you convinced my husband to vaccinate her, which could have killed her. She is deaf because of the insane reaction she had many years ago. I never stated you gave her a lepto vaccine. I am not ordering on chewy I get her script at Walmart and I can tell the difference between a tech giving a human .06 for a person or .6 for a dog as I can do basic math.

    Please take your pets elsewhere.

Also please read their “response” and you can also see how well they actually listen to the client.

I asked in my neighborhood app and so many people responded with yes stay away from this place I was honestly shocked.

Every time we go here there's a surprise charge. $10 to write a script or attempts to do tests that do not need to be done. Like an ultrasound on my perfectly healthy dog If you do choose to keep coming here look at your bill CAREFULLY. Will not recommend or be back. I know vet offices are a business first but this place is absurd and will charge you for anything and everything they dream up. If they could charge your petbfeo breathing the air they would. Turns out my neighbor had the same experience here and told me she won't be back either. Front desk staff are rude too which only affects their clinic

Make an appointment to remove stitches for my dog they tell me to send the record of the ER visit, send the the record, then the day of one of the receptionist says they need the records to remove the stitches I tell them I sent them in an email and the lady says well you sent it to the wrong email or it's lost , I speak to another person and she says they can't open the link and they need the records to remove the stitches, so basically they don't know how to open PDFs, they don't tell you a head of time or verify the documentation sent to them until the day of and still made an appointment without verification and wasted my time, and they don't help with finding a solution to their failure to verify and have a software that works for documentation. They have poor customer service automatically accusing the customer of sending documents to the wrong email only for them to actually have the email just can't afford Adobe to open documents and super irresponsible to wait until the day of the appointment to say they can't open their email so they can't help you out .

$65 for a physical exam of my dog when I already explained what the issue was. Abbey Animal Hospital wants to perform a biopsy on my dog and then give him all his "required" vaccines afterwards and they will not perform the biopsy without these vaccines. They want $2500 to remove a 1 1/2 cm potential tumor, that they have no explanation of what exactly it is. I am going to look for another veterinarian.
