Woodland Cemetery

Visited October 9, 2023 to find the cemetery restored to how I remembered it back in the 1990s. My great aunt was buried in Woodland Cemetery in 1991. I had heard about the neglect of the cemetery since then. I was surprised and happy to see the recent restoration for myself. Great Job to the volunteers and the Woodland Cemetery Preservation for saving this sacred place.

My wife, her mother and I came here over 15 years ago to find her mother's mother's headstone. Amazingly we found it among the overgrown vegetation. It looked like a long-ago abandoned site. I went back with my wife recently and it was like a miracle had happened. Mr. Marvin Harris the executive director of the Woodland Restoration Foundation and another gentleman helped us find the gravesite. Driving around, the cemetery seemed so much bigger than before. Although a lot of work needs to be done, those buried here can now rest in peace and dignity thanks to the efforts of Mr. Harris and many others. They have done a great work.

I need to locate the person who handles the Woodland Cemetery restoration. My family is buried there and I would love to assist. I plan to shoot GPS data of my family plot for precise locations.
