About Virginia Employment Commission

The Virginia Employment Commission is a helpful and good resource. Staff are polite, willing to help, and provide useful recommendations, such as sending important documents by certified mail. The office can be loud and distracting at times. While the staff are helpful, the maximum unemployment payment is considered very low and difficult to live on, with strict limits on additional weekly earnings.

Already bad enough to be separated from service and struggling to find a job; even better when you called the phone number for unemployment and they don’t pick up. I know it’s not this particular office fault, but I’ve been trying to get a hold of someone whether online or phone on getting my benefits. Originally I’m from Texas, but my husband is stationed here for at least another year and a half. Texas is willing to help, but because I’m applying for jobs in Virginia I have to go through VEC. You would think a state with a lot of military people they would have better services, but that’s definitely not true. Already hate living here hated it even more.

This place deserves zero stars. Your online self-service system is flawed. It does not update personal information properly. Then, when an agent tries to contact you for fact finding information, they end up calling a non-working phone number and your claim ends up being denied. I tried to update my information several but the system would not allow me to change it. I also contacted customer service to update my information and it still was not corrected. Then if you try to appeal, you will have to wait even longer for them to make a decision. It is ridiculous!

15 months my wife has been calling and emailing almost daily.

Someone stole her identity. Took a year to get that cleared and reinstate her claim. 5 months later she got a letter saying they over paid her. Guess what? She hasnt received a penny. No phone numbers work, email responses are generic. Its driving my nuts on her behalf. All for one month of benefits during covid
Shes contacted government officials, reps, senators, lawyers all that. No end in sight. Still cant get ahold of anyone.
