My family drove three hours for the service and we decided to bring our dogs with the intention of leaving them in the back of our truck(we didn’t want to leave them at home alone for so many hours and also didn’t want to be rushed to head back home) when we got there the Woodlawn staff went above and beyond and not only accommodated our human family but my fur babies too. They provided a safe shady spot for my dogs, cleaned their crates(they got sick on the ride) and gave them attention and water all while we were morning our grandma. “Today we attended my cousin’s funeral at Metropolitan Funeral Home at the Berkeley location in Norfolk. It was an emotional and very difficult day for our family. The staff as a whole was kind, but I have to give a special shout‑out to Ms. Sharon.

My daughter and I arrived early we beat the traffic that so many others got stuck in and before we knew it, Rhonda (a family friend) and I found ourselves taking the reins to set up for the repass. Neither of us had ever done anything like this before. We were grieving, overwhelmed, and trying our best to make everything right for our family.

Ms. Sharon stepped in like an angel. She guided us through every step and helped us place all the food so it looked thoughtful and organized. She was everywhere she needed to be, making sure things were handled with care. There were also two gentlemen who were instrumental in helping us, and although I can’t remember their names, their kindness did not go unnoticed.

I remember Ms. Sharon’s name because I must have asked her about 80 questions and that’s not an exaggeration. Not once did she get frustrated. She was patient, steady, and so genuinely helpful. Even though I wish we had met under different circumstances, I am grateful to know her. She became our “boss” for the day, guiding us through one of the saddest moments of my life with grace and compassion.
