To be honest, this started as an after school activity that I thought my daughter may like. After almost 3 years, it is much more than that for us. She has gained so much confidence as well as focus, determination and discipline. She wants to keep working for each new milestone at both school and in martial arts. She is also more respectful at home and has made great friends along the way. The kids are taught not just martial arts but also how to be good, kind human beings and the instructors have made parenting more than a little easier. The extra events at Halloween, Christmas, as well as the daily interaction, including all of the school breaks helps to bring the community together while also teaching the kids valuable life lessons.
When my 8 year old daughter decided that she wanted to follow in her father’s footsteps and learn martial arts, I made sure to select the very best school for her. I spent weeks visiting all the local studios and speaking with other students and parents. The name ‘Dong’s’ came up over and over again. Parents raved about how organized the classes were and the high quality of instruction. I met adults who had been a part of the Dong’s family for two decades. Other studios let us have just an interview or observe a class, but at Dong’s my daughter had several low pressure classes she got to participate in. We immediately were made to feel like part of the family, and I could tell the instructors were all concerned about my child’s strengths and weaknesses. Mixed in with the honing of the physical martial art positions are words of encouragement and life lessons. I’ve been so impressed with all the instructors . My daughter is blossoming after just a few months. She is more helpful, kind and responsible whether at home or at school. My girl LOVEs Dongs and is always excited for class. We looked at ALL the martial arts studios in the area. Grandmaster Dong’s was hands down the BEST!! Look no further. Now my daughter is 11 years old and will be testing in a few months for her black belt. She still loves going to classes even after a long day at school. She particularly loves the special monthly black belt club meetings. The instructors tailor their interactions to each student based on their needs. The instructors have gently encouraged my child to be more confident. Physically she is stronger, quicker, fitter and more flexible. But more importantly, thanks to the curriculum of the school she is a better person. She has more respect for herself and those around her. She recognizes how to surround herself with kind people and gives grace to those around her who do not act with best intentions. She is more organized and responsible. The school constantly reminds the young students to be grateful to their parents which is priceless. Don’t hesitate and give Dong’s a try as it is one of the best decisions our family has made.
