Dr. Garrett and staff were all very knowledgeable and helpful throughout our cat Milo's cancer diagnosis and treatment. Dr. Garrett always made time to talk over treatment ideas and explain our situation in ways that made sense. When it came time for the end, we were met with compassion and respect at every step. Everyone at old dominion made what is always a difficult decision and process go as smoothly as possible. We will miss Milo very much but it was comforting to go through this process with the competent, compassionate vets and staff.

UPDATE: 3 kittens eyes are PERMANENTLY damaged and scarred.
If you are a breeder I would NOT recommend taking your kittens or puppies here. They do NOT obtain consent for vaccinations prior to administering them, regardless of your stated wishes. They also do NOT wear gloves. I recently brought my kittens to ODAH who had a potential herpes infection. The dame had a history of herpes and a prior litter with CONFIRMED ocular herpes. Not only did they provide STEROID drops for the inflamed potentially herpes infected eyes (which would make herpes worse) but Dr. Garrett did NOT wear gloves during the exam, for this highly contagious virus!!! A second vet at this location also came in to give eyedrops to my kittens to assess for eye ulcers and handled my infected kitten WITHOUT gloves. I guess they don’t care about spreading highly contagious diseases to other owners pets. My kittens are now at another emergency facility with potentially ruptured eyeballs. And they respond with a bold face LIE to my review stating that they always obtain consent for vaccinations?!? Obvious to say I will NOT ever recommend ODAH anymore to my patients here in Charlottesville AND DHP and the veterinary board will be receiving my complaint against ODAH, Dr. Garrett, and Dr. Sirk. Since leaving my honest negative review their PAID STAFF members have left positive reviews in an attempt to hide their negative ones. What a conflict of interest but no surprise. -Dr. Segura

Wrong diagnose, and wrong medication!

On November 10, 2025, we called the ODAH Crozet branch where we normally go because our sweet boy, Cove, had a sudden onset of back pain and paralysis in his back legs. Meredith got us in with the Charlottesville branch immediately and we saw Dr. Sirk. It was determined that our big little man (a miniature long haired dachshund) had a slipped disc, which was causing the pain in his back and paralysis to his back legs. Based on the diagnosis and the significant deficits he was already suffering, we knew that he would never be his normal, back leg standing self again.
Dr. Sirk walked us through everything and helped us as we humanely put down our sweet boy so we knew he would no longer suffer. Dr. Sirk and the staff at ODAH Charlottesville were phenomenal in helping us get everything together for our boy. He (Dr. Sirk) even stayed with Cove as we left once he was gone, so we didn’t feel like we were leaving him alone.
What was even more heartwarming was Meredith checked on us from the Crozet branch as well.
We personally know Meredith, and she treats us like all of her patients families, but there is a care there like no other. She knows how much we love our fur babies and that we only want the best for them, even going so far as to ensure that they are seen by one branch or the other to get treatment as soon as possible.
Without people like Meredith, Dr. Sirk, Dr. Jagger, Dr. Kramer, Dr. Wood, Shelly, Isa, and all of the vet techs, and vet tech assistants, we don’t know what we would do. You all have become an extension of our family, and a big part of our lives, especially as we currently have 13 pups that are our world.
We miss our Cove everyday, but with your team’s help it makes the transition a lot easier knowing we did all we could and made our babies be at ease.
Thank you!

Old Dominion Animal Hospital has been such a gift to our pets and our family since we moved to the area. Dr. Garrett is genuinely one of the most caring, compassionate, and thorough veterinarians we’ve ever met. The entire team, from the friendly front desk staff to the technicians who take such amazing care of our animals, has always greeted us with kindness and made our pets feel safe and loved. We’re so grateful for the care and attention they provide, and we truly wouldn’t trust our pets anywhere else.

My employer has sent me to this veterinary office multiple times with kittens, but unfortunately these most recent visits will be our last. The issue comes down to integrity and attention to detail.
At our appointment, I clearly told both the receptionist and the vet tech exactly what procedures were needed for the two kittens: a rabies vaccine, a microchip, and a wellness check. These were the same services performed on their littermates just days earlier. I also explained the kittens’ recent medical history, including the fact that they had already received their distemper vaccines, and that the records would be emailed over by my employer.
Despite this, the vet administered the distemper vaccine again—without my request and without my consent. I would never have approved this, knowing it was unnecessary and had just been done by the owner. The only time I mentioned distemper at all was to clarify that it had already been given.
I fully understand that mistakes and miscommunications can happen. However, instead of acknowledging the error, the practice told my employer that I approved the distemper vaccine, which is simply untrue. Rather than taking responsibility for their internal miscommunication, they chose to put my integrity into question—while damaging their own in the process.
To say I’m disappointed is an understatement. We trust veterinarians with the lives of our pets, and that trust was broken here. Their actions showed a complete lack of honesty and accountability.

Dr Godine is wonderful! She is extremely thorough and attentive, always making sure we understand everything going on with our pets. We also highly recognize how wonderful the techs are; our Tech Anna was so understanding and kind to our pets. Every single veterinarian I have met has been extremely capable, extremely kind, and really overall amazing. I could not be happier taking my pets there. I trust every single person here.
