I was visiting Charlottesville for a wedding and had Mela style my hair. It took about 45 mins and cost $60 and it was completely worth it. I would never be able to do this with my own hair and I love how it came out. She is so sweet and good at what she does. My appointment was at 11 am and the wedding was at 4 pm - not only did the style last all day but I slept in it and it still looked good all day the next day too! Would definitely recommend them!

Saw a friend of mine whose hair looked fantastic and when I asked who did it, the answer was Mela. I normally do very little to my hair, and Mela was super patient with me and we talked through everything at a free consultation. She did a fabulous job and I was so pleased with the results! I have been a happy and faithful customer of Alma & Mela Hair Salon here in Charlottesville for 17 years. They are so professional and compassionate, bringing amazing artistry to every hair cut, style and coloring. They listen to what you want, are a joy to spend time with, and really care about their customers. Being at their salon is like having a spa treatment. They take their time, bring you coffee or tea, give your head an amazing massage when washing your hair, and just generally take care of you in a relaxing way. During the pandemic, they have created a safe and sanitary environment and always wear masks as they work. I look forward to my appointments, my conversations with them and to the beautiful style I'll see in the mirror at the end of my time there. I have been going to Alma and Mela monthly to touch up my roots for over a year now, and they are amazing. They treat you like family, always welcoming you with open arms, sweet and personal conversations, and a hot cup of tea or coffee. This is the best and healthiest my hair has ever looked, and I have notoriously difficult hair when it comes to picking up color. I have even seen people come in on several occasions with some hair emergency, but nothing that Alma and Mela could not fix. They even validate parking at the Water Street deck! To sum it up, they are all-around great, and I would recommend this salon to anyone.

Fabulous salon with extremely knowledgeable hairstylist! Called last minute to try to get my hair colored and Alma accommodated me on her lunch hour. She was a wealth of information throughout my appointment, giving me advice on product and how to treat my hair after color. It was a very relaxed atmosphere, they even offered me some fresh blueberries while I was waiting for my hair to process. I got a beautiful blowout as well, and was amazed at how affordable their services were. Wish I had found them sooner, unfortunately I'm moving out of state, but if you live anywhere near Charlottesville this is the place to go. Five stars all the way!
