First time I went to get my hair done. Waited a couple weeks since she didn’t have availability. To set perspective I’m a natural hair monoracial African American woman with a lot of hair that is pretty thick and long. She took out my hair weave and I wanted her to do a silk press. She told me she would need to cut my hair and showed me how much which was really a lot. I told her I did not want her to and not to do much. She spent about 10 minutes telling me why she had to and did it anyways. She cut my hair horribly in layers on top of cutting so much off. I am baffled that someone can cut off so much of someone’s hair they just met. I had to drive all the way back to my hairstylist in another state who have been doing hair for 30 years to get my hair done properly. When everyone at my home salon seen my hair and how much was cut off after they invested so long in growing it they were pissed. Please be cautious if you are especially a black woman with long hair that’s really just a hard lesson I had to learn

I can’t say enough good things about Sara. She’s talented, versatile, efficient, and kind. When I first went to Sara’s salon a couple of years ago, I hadn’t gotten a trim in months because I wanted to find someone I could trust to do my hair. Finally, when it got to be too much, I made an appointment with Sara because she had good reviews. I figured if it didn’t turn out well, my hair would grow back. But I was so pleasantly surprised! Since I’ve been seeing Sara, my family and friends keep commenting how healthy and pretty my hair looks. And coworkers have asked me where I get my hair done. Sara does a great job of explaining what she’s doing and what products she’s using. I have 4C natural hair (like actual 4C hair) and I’ve had hairdressers (1) get visibly and audibly frustrated with the work of straightening my hair or (2) not take the time to trim it properly or (3) encourage me to get a texturizer or relaxer. Sara does none of those things. She treats my hair well as it is, but also does a wonderful job of transforming it when I choose to get it straightened. I used to hate going to the hair salon, but now I love it and it’s because of Sara. I always know I’m going to leave feeling good about the appearance and health of my hair. Having my hair done by Sara has reminded me why I love the versatility of my hair so much and how it can thrive in the hands of someone like Sara, who knows what she’s doing.

I’ve been going to Sara for over a year and I’m always pleased with the results. Red is a tricky dye color, especially on lighter hair. With other stylists I’ve often ended up with brownish orange, bright red, or ‘hot roots’. Sara always produces the perfect shade of dark red that’s uniform throughout!

I've been going to Sara for haircuts since at least 2017, starting at HairCuttery in Crystal City up until 2019. I left DC for 4 years, but upon returning in 2023, I was very fortunate to be able to find Sara in her new independent salon. She has always been incredibly friendly and does a great job with my haircuts, in spite of how pick I am about it. I've been going reliably now, every 3 or 4 weeks, and I expect I will continue to do so as long as possible. I'd happily recommend anyone needing their hair done, in any way, go to Sara and I know she'll take great care of you.

Sara is an educator and artist. Both of these skills became readily evident as she patiently explained how best to hydrate my hair and retain length. She first evaluated my color (I have varying shades of light brown and blond, but my roots had grown out by ~1-1/2in and the grays were screaming) and talked me through how she was going to blend my roots to match my existing color and would not be adding additional highlights at that time. I am OBSESSED with my color - imagine warm blond, light brown, with blond sparkles! Sara can paint some hair folks and understands tone & blending.

Next, she thoroughly cleansed my scalp and applied a steam treatment to moisturize and deep condition my coils. After, she blew me out with a round brush (her hands are SO GENTLE - no pulling or tugging - and then silk-pressed my hair into a carefree tousled curl style that lasted for more than a week. The pièce de résistance was when she taught me how to pin curl the style for maintenance.

I've spent a small mortgage on my hair throughout my 55-years, often with lackluster results. To add insult to injury, many stylists have balked (out loud) about the thickness of my hair. Not Sara. She wasn't the least bit intimated by thick coils and made light work of all the steps described. As soon as she touched my hair, I knew I was in good hands because she just understands hair across the spectrum.
