About Peter Liebenthal
Peter Liebenthal is a highly regarded acupuncturist who has been helping clients in the Virginia area for several years. Many of his patients have found him to be an essential part of their overall health and well-being. One client, who first explored acupuncture in their 20s for nerve pain, has been seeing Peter regularly for about 3 years. They initially came to him for chronic hip and low back pain, but now also see him for stress, immune support, and hormonal balance. During high-stress periods, they'll visit Peter twice a week, as they find his calm, grounded energy to be incredibly beneficial. After each session, the client feels more relaxed, centered, and often pain-free. Another client, who was inspired by a friend's recommendation, has been seeing Peter for anxiety that was affecting their sleep, focus, and overall positive mindset. They appreciate that Peter takes the time to understand their current state and adjusts the treatment accordingly. This client has found that after just a few visits, they are calmer, falling asleep during sessions, and waking up refreshed with deeper, more peaceful sleep. Both clients highly recommend Peter for his thoughtful, caring, and effective acupuncture treatment, whether for acute or chronic issues, or for developing a holistic approach to overall health and well-being.
I started exploring acupuncture treatments in my early 20s, living in the Bay Area, for nerve pain from a herniated disc. Every Western doctor said I’d need surgery (I even had an epidural which did not help and actually triggered depression …), but after a year of regular acupuncture, the pain was gone. That experience made acupuncture an essential part of how I take care of myself.
When I moved to Virginia, I wanted to find someone I could see regularly. Not just for pain, but for overall support. I found Peter, and I’ve been going to him for about 3 years now.

A friend's recommendation inspired me to make an appointment with Peter about a year ago. For an hour twice each month, I've been seeing him for anxiety that has been affecting my sleep, my ability to focus, and as a result, created a constant state of tension, all which ultimately affected my usual positive mindset. I like that before he begins each session, Peter asks and records how I'm feeling, what's happening in my life, and how this makes me feel. Introspection and honesty are important here as this can help Peter focus better on what's needed, and he often adjusts where he inserts needles based on these conversations. Having lived a few blocks from San Francisco's Chinatown for many years before moving to the DC area, I relied on acupuncture often to address sore or stiff muscles. But Peter is my first attempt at using it to address anxiety, which triggered the above symptoms. I believe Peter is as skilled as the much older acupuncturist who helped me in San Francisco. I noticed after a few visits with Peter, I was calmer after each session. But now, I'm delighted that I'm falling asleep during a session, wake refreshed, sleep more deeply at night, and my body is relaxed and peaceful. Partnering with Peter to restore me to a positive attitude was a smart decision.
