“Sensei Joe taught me when I was a kid, and I woke up this morning and had that nostalgic memory and just had to hop on google and make sure the place was still there. When I get the chance I should drop in sometime and say hi, I still remember the competitions and the friends I made, heck I remember the way this place smelled, no joke. I remember always losing my mouth guards, struggling to tie my uniform, and announcing to the class my grandma used to street fight because I thought it was cool, up until I knew what it was? Sensei Joe has always been such a kind man, I remember how friendly he was and how sometimes me and my mother would be out at Winco and he’d be there checking out and would never fail to say hi to us. I’m 19 now and haven’t been in his class since I was probably 10 or 11, but it had a huge impact on my life and really taught me some good fundamentals. It takes a wonderful Sensei to be remembered almost 10 years down the line as something I saw as a children’s activity then, but totally see as a life lesson now. I’m sure Sensei Joe doesn’t remember me, but if you do, It’s Phebe from about 10 years ago and I’d love to stop in and say hi again! Thank you for the impact you have on youth and the adults you teach. I promise, it doesn’t go unnoticed.“
