Please stay away from this place! The owner is rude and extremely sneaky, she’s only friendly when she’s receiving your money. The braiders are rude, and talk about their clients and very combative …totally disrespectful! One customer even videotaped their rude behavior! The braiding area needs to be remodeled… doesn’t look clean whatsoever!

This is how my daughter left in pain and crying after a wash and cornrows. I paid $50 for this.
The lady didn’t know how to blow dry hair straight before braiding. Instead she blow dried it in an Afro and attempted to braid my daughter’s hair while kinky. It was so painful we got up and left mid service. Another lady stopped us to finish it and had to blow dry her hair straight. I thought they would know the basics. Don’t waste your time.
Save your money go somewhere else.

I have been going to Essence for about 8 months to get crochet braids. The prices are reasonable, and I love the Christian music. The owner/shop manager really cares for her clients needs, but I’ve noticed she doesn’t expect the same of the other stylists. I overheard her tell my braid stylist that a customer complained that she made her braids too small. Rather than accepting her mistake, she blamed the customer. Meanwhile, she made the same mistake with me by making my hair too big and adding to many highlights! I had to spend extra time in the chair because she didn’t listen to what I wanted. I’ll probably keep going due to the low prices, but I’d like the shop manager to consider not having stylists switch between other heads. Had I kept my original stylist who understood my vision, I wouldn’t have had to explain AGAIN and ask for corrections because the new lady didn’t see my vision. Also, the side chatter, phone calls and petty remarks need to stop. It’s unprofessional. Shop owner, I know you are overpowered by the older stylists but take control and have the tone if your shop match the Christian music.

I have been going here since elementary, love them and all the worker that work there have did my hair . But this year they really showed their true colors. I wont go into details but it don’t be that busy in there to not have the option to request the same person for services from a specific person if the others can’t do it . I’ve sent regulars here but will definitely be letting them know ! ( it was only 2 stitch braids , and EVERYBODY can’t do 2 stitch braids)

Stay away went in today to see if they person who use to do my hair was in and see was. I wanted her only to be the one because the previous person cut my braids out when I paid to have to have them taken down! Well today I went in after not coming here from the last incident. I asked if Ms. Rose was still there i was told yes. I wanted her to do my hair. The owners daughter told me she couldn't do my hair they have others in the shop. If I make an appointment and paying i should be able to let whomever do my hair. Dear owners daughter you are rude, ignorant and unintelligent! Stay away they will cut your hair out!!
