I am very disappointed in this business. An employee, James (picture attached) denied me my child's medical records last week and said it was a HIPPA violation. He said he could not give me an expired prescription and I understood that, so I requested her full and complete medical records. He told me I could not have them. Sadly, the doctor of this establishment sat in the back room (where the initial exams are done before patients see him) and watched as I was lied to about HIPPA laws and my rights. I let James know I would return once I'd done my own research concerning this issue because I didn't know much about it. I returned today May 23, 2022. I have the policy as it is stated on their own website (attached) I also have done further research concerning HIPPA laws and optometry laws (attached) and he certainly violated my rights as a mother to have my child's Medical records. James argued and even made faces at me. I did record but I did not record any ones face because they would not have spoken to me if I did. It is my right to record nevertheless because Texas is a one-party consent state it is legal for me to record a conversation that I am taking part in. Once again the Doctor sat in a back room and listen to this all unfold. The doctor did finally instruct them to give me the records after I was spoken to in this disgusting way. James pursued me when I left to get in my car demanding that I delete my recording. He took a picture of my license plate and he said he was calling the police on me. I was there alone without my husband so him following me to my car was scary. I was able to record myself telling him that if he approached me I would call the police. I got in my car and closed and locked the doors. I waited for a while because he said the police were coming but they never came so I went home. I left there feeling, scared, belittled, degraded, and devalued by James and the doctor because he didn't stand up for me while his employee harassed me. I'm not sure why I was treated this way but I was made to feel dehumanized during the time I was there. Although I have to use Medicaid for my daughter, I paid out of pocket last year when she got her glasses so she could have a nice pair and I had my own appointment and paid out of pocket for the appointment and the glasses. I am a paying customer too, and I wish I was treated better. It seems as though James is used to intimidate fragile customers. Video is posted in the comments
Budget optical staff is always friendly and offers great service. I was checked in and evaluated within 30-minutes. Dr.Deapen is always my 1st choice in eye care checkups and optical needs.
I was seeing a black dot and spiderwebs. I called on the weekend and left a message. I was called as soon as they opened and was seen that day. Thank you for making my eye health a priority!
