As a 40 year old straight white man, dancing sober in front of strangers is a deep existential fear of mine. I think I would rather have my fingernails pulled out with needle nose pliers. But Brette Seffens Beginner Choreography class at 6:00 pm on Wednesdays has made me rethink my definitions of terror and torture.
Brette is not only a dance teacher. She is a life coach. She is a comedian. She slowly but surely turns my very awkward gyrations into slightly less awkward gyrations through patience and determination. Step by baby step.

I’ve been attending classes here for almost three years, and Beginner Heels with Angie has been the class I’ve taken most often.
Angie is a talented instructor, and her choreography is challenging, which I appreciate. My biggest piece of feedback is that I wish she gave more students the opportunity to perform after the class splits. It often feels like the same 5–6 dancers are chosen every class, many of whom are already on her team and know a lot of the routines beforehand. As a result, other students rarely get the chance to be challenged or recognized, and the environment can feel a bit cliquish.
