Excellent extremely affordable social-justice-oriented counseling services in English and Spanish! Was lucky to both receive them and later to intern as a psychology student on track to be a counselor. Run by wonderful women!
I have been having counseling at the YWCA for several years now and recently after a couple of years of not needing the service I went back to start again since Covid hit and that made me need counseling services again. While I do find the counselors and most of the staff very nice and extremely caring I just recently encountered a problem and that gives me a need to write a review now. You have to know that what is said in your sessions are NOT PRIVATE!!! THEY ARE NOT CONFIDENTIAL! One would think they should be and part of me understands why they are not. The interns are learning and if they are not aware of out to handle an issue it might be shared with there supervisor. This is the case that happened with me. Once it was shared by my counselor recently it got way out of proportion very badly and fast. My counselor encouraged me to share something I really did not want to share but in order to grow I decided to. I have done this before with 2 others in the YWCA and this as never happened but cause of what was shared along with some boundaries being broken my services were terminated abruptly and without notifying me till after I was waiting on zoom for my session to start. This was very unprofessional and for sure was not fair to me or my counselor which was a very nice sweet lady. I did not do what they claimed I did and they have not acknowledged the fact that they were wrong. If I did what they said I did I would probably be in jail but because I did not do that I am not. Although I liked them at one time and feel like they do good work I needed to make the people aware of this situation with this review. Just be warned if you do seek counseling just know it is not confidential and it could come back to hurt you in the long run.
