VCA Animal Hospitals Urgent Care - South Austin - PERMANENTLY CLOSED

Brought in an injured dog who was jumped by an unleashed dog while I was walking my dog. She has a 4" wound on her head. The staff was very sweet and compas soon ate with my dog and me. I was able to wait at home until they were ready to see me. It was nice to be home and comfort my dog while waiting to see the vet. And lastly, they were very thorough in examining and treating her and the bill was very reasonable. I would recommend this staff to anyone with an injury.

I was very pleasantly surprised with the experience today. My regular VCA doctor could not fit me in so they referred us to the new clinic. There was a new vet, Dr. McDonald, who was extremely knowledgeable and thorough. She was patient and answered all of our questions. I didn't feel pressured or given an insane exorbitant treatment plan. I felt very comfortable with the treatment plan and attention my dog received. My experience was far better than the ER treatment that we received the day prior by Central Texas veterinary clinic. My only complaint is that I came in at 10 AM and was told they didn't open till 11 AM because they were on boarding a new vet, which was not what their hours showed online. We had to wait but the staff came to triage my dog first. I consider this a one-off and understand the unique situation. 10/10 and will use again!

My cat and dog got into quite the fight leaving my cat with a laceration. The staff here was quick, honest, and waived the visit fee due to needing to go to a surgery center. While being in an emergency situation with your pet is very scary it was very comforting to be with professionals who care!

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.We brought our 6 yr old dog in on a Friday afternoon because he had not eaten in days and was acting incredibly lethargic, shedding profusely, every red-flag symptom you can think of. He had barely drank water in 2 days time, had not pooped in 2 days, and had almost zero strength to walk or hold himself up. We were distraught and looking for answers. Dr. Natasha Diehl was absolutely terrible. She spent about 3 minutes in the exam room with us and did not even check our dogs gums for dehydration. She picked up his skin once and said "hes not dehydrated!". 24 hours later our dog was being admitted to Texas A&M ICU for severe dehydration among other issues. Our dog was on his death bed, and Dr. Diehl could not be bothered to spend one more moment with us trying to figure out what was wrong.Long story short: Dr. Diehl was not qualified to handle our dogs issues and did not do her due diligence in helping us identify the problem or pointing us in the right direction for where we may get answers. She specializes in "exotic animals", but could not even tell that our dog was DEHYDRATED. The only offer she gave us was a CBC for $450, typically priced at about $80-$100 at other clinics. This CBC was not even a full panel CBC. 4x price increase just to run a sample of blood through a centrifuge, not even to treat or diagnose our dog. Once we told her that was way too costly, her attitude changed and she quickly left the room and did not return. She was not willing to help us further if we were not willing to pay VCAs extortionary prices. Her techs spent the next hour with us calling other vets in the area that we could take our dog to that would be more affordable and more informed. These techs were as helpful as they could be, and stayed after hours to help guide us in the right direction. The techs were solid, Dr. Diehl was horrendous.I cannot believe we walked into the doors of VCA and trusted their "doctors" with our fur baby. Our dog very easily could have died had we listened to Dr. Diehl's "prognosis".To make matters worse, VCA could not even get the name right when billing, and they made it out to the wrong individual.DO NOT TRUST VCA URGENT CARE WITH YOUR DOGS. THEY ARE UNQUALIFIED AND CRIMINALLY EXPENSIVE.

Super caring and attentive help. Although our pup still has a lot more treatment ahead,.we now have an action plan and we are super grateful!

Not one of the best experiences at a vet. Went to diagnose a diarrhea for our pet where he had vomitted just once and they gave an injection for vomitting apparently and nothing to control diarrhea. From what was told by our regular vet and online reading that was unnecessary for a one time vomit incident . As am reading more on vca and how its operated, its a national chain and is usually mentioned as one of the more expensive care for pets out there. Since this industry has lesser regultions than human healthcare and this is owned by a public corporation, profits obviously come first and it is expected. The positives are- same day appointment within an hour or so and some good folks working here. Else expect high vet care costs, unnecessary tests etc. Always compare prices or get second opinions on major costs or procedures if you are able to.

Everyone was so nice, welcoming and attentive to my dog’s needs. We came in on a Saturday morning since our vet was booked and within an hour were seen by the vet. The process was relatively quick considering his treatment. Event with payment, they accept care credit and credit cards and ran through the list of charges to make sure we were comfortable with pricing of everything. They followed up to see how he was doing on Monday and answered questions within minutes. 10/10 experience.

I’ve never had such a quick ER visit. They work with your budget and provide excellent care.
