What can I say, the Handyband Collective rocks! I’ve hired them twice now—once to install a new bathroom sink/vanity, and another time to do a bigger project building a pergola in my backyard during the heat of summer. Both times I was impressed by the consistent attention to detail in quoting out the work, determining the materials, and setting super clear expectations for the time range and end cost depending on those variables. The cost was reasonable and in line with other quotes I got, but with better service and attention to detail. We had a couple of small surprises and hiccups, but they were dealt with quickly and professionally. I also appreciated that they always showed up on time and looped me in if there was any need for a change in plan. It was a huge contrast to prior experiences I’ve had with other handyman types who seemed to pull quotes out of dank air and were unreliable about when they’d show or how long they’d take. I’m a project manager myself, and the Handyband’s solid organization and communication put me at ease that things were being handled right. I also love the idea of making opportunities to support our local music scene. I’ll be reaching out to this crew for anything else I need from now on!
it's not easy to find a great contractor, who you know you can trust. I was intrigued when I read about Handyband's objectives and transparent methods, and reached out for a small project to give them a try. First, transparency: all materials were priced out, with links to the mats at a local home improvement store. Yes, there's a markup if you have them do the shopping, but that wasn't necessary, and the shopping was easy. You should pay for someone's time, so the markup is negligible if you have them do it. Second, price: they listed a minimum and maximum estimate, allowing for unexpected situations. Their cost was in our opinion very reasonable. Third, employees: The manager was responsive and easy to reach. He spelled out everything expected of us, and the booking was very low hassle. The workers themselves were prompt, professional, courteous and friendly. The entire experience was easy and low stress. The work was done nicely, and in the midst of the job, they pointed out a big problem for us, which meant the job needed to be modified. We were like "ah, just go ahead and do it", and they politely pushed back "we're not sure that's a good idea", and they were RIGHT, saving us a massive headache in the end, for which were incredibly grateful. We'll be hiring them again, no question.
